XXVI IES Yaiza Triathlon

A brilliant sports day crowned Javier Dorronsoro from IES Blas Cabrera Felipe and Bruno Castro from Colegio Arenas Internacional and Julia Rodríguez from IES San Bartolomé as absolute winners of the XXVI Edition of the IES Yaiza Triathlon held in Puerto Calero and in the surroundings of the educational center, the most demanding and massive school sports event in the archipelago.

More than 1,200 young athletes from more than twenty-two educational centers on three islands (Lanzarote, Tenerife and Fuerteventura) gathered on the southern coast to test their endurance and determination in the four classic segments of the event.

From early in the morning, the competitors moved to Puerto Calero to complete the 800 meters of swimming in open water. As every year, the start was staggered according to the different categories of participants.

Once out of the water, the competitors walked about 1,200 meters along the Puerto Calero promenade, overcoming the difficult access ramp to the Hotel Secrets Lanzarote Resort parking lot, and once there, they faced just over eight and a half kilometers by bicycle of a demanding route between small ravines and areas of loose soil.

Finally, the run of just over three and a half kilometers, which combined dirt paths, sections of slopes and descents, ending inside the educational center, was the last obstacle before the finish line. With the numerous public cheering along all the sections, Javier Dorronsoro and Bruno Castro crossed the finish line in unison, achieving victory in the senior and junior men's individual category under 20 years of age respectively, with a total time of 56'17". Julia Rodríguez, for her part, crossed the finish line with a time of 1h07'24" winning the victory in the women's individual category under 20.

After the test, the trophies were awarded to the winners of the different categories. The event was attended by representatives of the organizing institutions: Óscar Noda, Mayor of Yaiza; Juan Monzón, Sports Councilor of the Cabildo de Lanzarote; Ángel Lago, Sports Councilor of the Yaiza City Council and Beatriz Vázquez, Security Councilor of the Yaiza City Council. Representing the Ministry of Education, José Manuel Cabrera, Deputy Minister of Education, and Carmen Pellón, Island Director of Education of Lanzarote, attended. As guests, Kenneth Gasque, founder of Ironman, and Cristina Calero, deputy of the Canary Islands Parliament, were present.

Finally, the organizers also had words of gratitude for the collaborating entities and companies, without which this event would not have been possible. Mainly, the essential involvement in the organization of the Yaiza City Council, the Lanzarote Island Council, IES Yaiza, the Island Sports Service of the Lanzarote Island Council and Deportes Yaiza Municipio Activo is noteworthy.

As well as the invaluable collaboration of almost thirty entities, such as the General Directorate of Youth of the Government of the Canary Islands, Calero Marinas, Lanzarote Bus, Chacón SL, Coca Cola, Tirma, Autos Cabrera Medina, Princesa Yaiza Suite Hotel Resort, Construcciones y Promociones Yosef Salah Barrios, Youth Service of the Cabildo de Lanzarote, Kalise, Tribike, Bodega La Geria, Solo de bici, Bodegas Vega de Yuco, Hielos La Bocaina, Secrets Lanzarote Resort & SPA, CFC Centro de Formación Canario, Club Deportivo Código Cero, Deportes Yaiza, Hipotels La Geria, Goyro Servicios y Mantenimiento, Body Care SPA & Wellness, Beatriz Costa & SPA, Mobilis Centro de Fisioterapia and Wood Store Maderas & Cocina.
