Hugo Pérez and Cristina Capitán are proclaimed winners of the V Popular Mile of La Santa

The race, which is part of the Carmen festivities, had 240 runners

The 5th edition of the Popular Mile of La Santa, framed between the acts of the festivities for the Virgen del Carmen 2023 of the coastal enclave, took place on the afternoon of this Friday with about 240 runners enjoying the streets of the town encouraged in an unbeatable atmosphere.

The Mile of La Santa, a scoring event in the Tinajo Popular Race Cup, ended with the youth Hugo Pérez (Cavelanz) winning in the men's category with a time of 0:04:52.8. The second drawer of the podium was for Tinguaro Quintero (Tenerife Cajacanarias), closing the trio in the lead Laurens Verluyten (3MD). The best veteran was José Carlos Hernández (Playas de Jandía) in sixth final position.

In the women's category, the winner was the cadet Cristina Capitán (Trotasierra Hornachuelos) with a time of 0:05:55. In second position was Marta Pereira-Borrajo (CD Delikia), climbing to the last drawer of the podium her teammate María Muñiz. From the same team, Delikia, came the best veteran of the race, Emilia Vidal.

Both winners came from winning the five-kilometer race in La Vegueta, another scoring event in the Tinajo Popular Race Cup. Prior to the adult race, the race for the youngest children was held. Mini version of the colorful race that, as always, caused the delight of the parents, mothers and neighbors of La Santa.

The Councilor for Sports of the City Council of Tinajo, Vianney Rodríguez, highlighted, "once again, the wonderful atmosphere that was breathed throughout the test. It is a test that, like almost all those that are disputed in Tinajo, does not stop growing, year after year".

The mayor of Tinajo, Jesús Machín, was "proud again after verifying that, in all the festivities of the municipality, in addition to the cultural and festive activities, sports activities are increasingly highlighted, which is turning Tinajo into one of the sports centers of the island of Lanzarote par excellence. Popular mile of La Santa that, together with the slalom of this Saturday, leaves us a weekend full of sport and smiles, an unbeatable way to finish the festivities in La Santa.
