The north of Lanzarote became the epicenter of regional trail running this weekend with the celebration of the fifth edition of the Haría Titán, an event that this year put the finishing touch on the Sky Fecamon Champ Marathon circuit and crowned Oswaldo Luis Medina and Elsa Padrón as champions. Organized by the Haría Trail Team, the race brought together nearly 900 participants from 12 nationalities, consolidating itself in just five years as one of the essential events in the Canary Islands trail running scene and a growing draw for runners from within and outside the archipelago.
The activity began on Friday with the Inclusive Hiking modality, which combined sport, landscape, culture, and integration, reaffirming the event's open and participatory nature. Later, the Chinij@s modality turned Haría's main square into a colorful and enthusiastic family meeting point, where the youngest participants enjoyed challenges adapted to each age. The mayor of Haría himself, Alfredo Villalba, joined the festivities to cheer and enjoy the trail's future generation on the first day of the Haría Titán.
On Saturday, the three main distances—42.5 km, 22.5 km, and 14.5 km—were contested in a day marked by a sporting atmosphere and the excitement of the runners who, from early morning, arrived at the municipality ready to face their challenge, whether it was to fight for the top positions or to live the experience of crossing the finish line.
The long-distance race, 42.5 km valid for the Canary Islands Trail Championship, started at 7:00 AM with a positive elevation gain of 2,180 meters and the imposing landscapes of Haría as a backdrop. The men's category offered a memorable image with the joint finish of Oswaldo Luis Medina and Sergio Machín (03:50:53), followed by Yonet González (03:55:32). In the women's category, Elsa Padrón took the victory with a time of 5:26:03, accompanied on the podium by Elena Valiente (05:30:05) and María Tatiana Mujica (05:37:32).
At 08:00, the Geopark modality (22.5 km) began, aimed at experienced runners who faced a demanding route through the northern mountains of the island. The men's victory went to Tomáš Polívka (1:52:03), followed by Raúl Santana (1:54:42) and Rayco Hernández (1:57:54). In the women's category, Alba Rey (2:22:13) took first place, followed by Sandra Ortiz (2:25:08) and Laura Mulcahy (2:29:29)
The competitive day concluded with the Youth category (14.5 km), a fast but demanding race for athletes beginning to take their first steps in trail running. The winners were Echedey Curbelo (1:24:36) and Lorena Rodríguez (1:26:14).
Commitment to the environment
Once again, the Haría Titán distinguished itself with its strong commitment to the environment. The organization awarded those who deposited their used gels in the designated bins and recalled that the race holds the prestigious Green CxM Trail environmental certification awarded by the FEDME, a seal held by only six races in Spain, recognizing the event's effort towards a sustainable competition model.
The trophy presentation marked the grand finale of the 5th Haría Titan, an event attended by the Minister of Physical Activity and Sports of the Cabildo de Lanzarote, Juan Monzón; the Councilor for Sports of the Haría City Council, Alberto de León; Councilor Chaxiraxi Niz, as well as members of the Haría Trail Team Club.
