Good performance of the Lanzarote delegation in the Canary Islands Chess Championship

In the children's and cadet categories, the Lanzarote team took third place

Throughout this weekend, the XXXIX Canary Islands School Chess Championships have taken place on the island of La Palma. The children's and cadet teams from the Islands of Lanzarote, Fuerteventura, Gran Canaria, Tenerife and La Palma participated in them. Each island has been represented by 12 players, 6 in the children's team and another 6 in the cadet team. In both cases with 3 players of each sex

Of the 12 players in the Lanzarote expedition, 6 girls and boys are students of the chess schools of the Esacan Cacharros Club, four from the Tinajo Chess School and another two from the Costa Teguise Chess School. Another 5 have been some of the CIAL Club plus a girl from the El Ocho de San Bartolomé Club.

The most outstanding performance has been that of the youngest. Julius Pleschke, a student at the Tinajo School, has been proclaimed absolute children's champion, with 6 points out of 7 possible. Also, in the female children's category Katharina Bangiev, also from the Tinajo School, with 4 points has been the runner-up tied on points with the champion, Adriana García, from Gran Canaria.

Both, Julius and Katharina, have obtained the classification to participate in the Spanish School Chess Championships that will be held in Santander from June 22 to 26. 

Joel Ascensión, 11⁰ with 4 points from CIAL, as well as Gonzalo Capriotti from CIAL, Nerea Rodríguez from El Ocho, and Naiara Medina from CIAL, have also been part of the Lanzarote children's team. 

In the team classification, Lanzarote has obtained the bronze medal, with 24 points from Julius Pleschke (1), Katharina Bangiev (10) and Joel Ascensión (11); behind the teams from Gran Canaria, champion with 17 points, and La Palma, runner-up with 18 points.

 

Third of the Canary Islands

The Lanzarote cadet team has also achieved the third place in the championship with individual performances.

In this team, 4 of the 6 components are students of the Esacan Cacharros Schools: Anton Bangiev, Jesús David Castillo, Laura Chara and Alvia Dsouza. The other two, from the CIAL Club, were Alexia de Ganzo and Enol González. 

Of the six, the most outstanding performance has been that of Anton, who with 4 points has been 11⁰ in the general classification, with the same points as the 8⁰, 9⁰ and 10⁰. Jesús David Castillo, with 3.5 points, has been classified in 14th place, while Alexia de Ganzo, with 3 points, has finished in 16th place, tied on points with 7 other participants.

Enol González, Laura Chara and Alvia Dsouza have also participated, all of them in their first experience in a regional championship.
