Last Saturday, February 21, the National Karate League held the first day of competition in the Benjamin, Alevín, Infantil, and Juvenil categories at the Palacio de los Deportes de La Rioja, in Logroño. The Club Karate Poliarrecife traveled to the event, returning home with a bronze medal and very good feelings.
The great protagonist was Gael Suárez, who managed to win the bronze medal in the Kumite Alevín Masculino -34 kg category after completing an outstanding competition. The young karateka fought four bouts, with a balance of three victories and a single defeat by senshu in a very close match. His performance was impeccable in terms of numbers: 17 points for and only 3 against, with scores of 7-2, 1-1, 6-0, and 3-0. A performance that confirms his progression and his competitive ability at the national level.
Marius Sasu and Mohamed Kouchamy also left a very positive impression, competing in Junior Male Kumite -60 kg and -45 kg, respectively. Both started their fights dominating, although they finally fell in the first round in very hard-fought matches. The absence of a repechage prevented them from continuing in the fight for medals, despite the good level shown on the tatami.
The Arrecife club, which trains at the Titerroy Municipal Pavilion, now faces an intense March with commitments in all territorial areas. On its calendar are the National League by teams in Torrejón de Ardoz, the National Junior League in Ciudad Real, the Canary Islands Children's Championship in Tenerife, and the World League (WKF Youth League) in Zimbabwe. A demanding schedule that reflects the ambition and constant growth of the Club Karate Poliarrecife throughout the season.
