The absolute and female Canary Islands Chess Championship held between July 15 and 19 in Gran Canaria, brought four representatives from Lanzarote, belonging to the OneChess Club of Arrecife.
The best classification from Lanzarote was achieved by Pedro Tomás Pérez, finishing in ninth position with 4.5 points and signing a regular tournament, thus placing himself among the top ten classified in the championship.
Tony López finished in eighteenth place with 4 points, remaining throughout the tournament in the fight for the top positions in the standings. For his part, Katharina Bangiev finished twentieth, also with 4 points, standing out for her progression by adding 40 FIDE Elo points.
The last Lanzarotean figure was completed by Marcelino Ramos, who with 3.5 points finished in twenty-fifth position after a championship in which he fought every round until the end.
The absolute title ended up in the hands of Kevin Meneses from Tenerife, while Helena Joana Li Chen from Fuerteventura was proclaimed female champion in addition to achieving the runner-up position in the absolute standings. The tournament culminated with ninth position being the best classification for Lanzarote.
