This Saturday, August 17, the Islote de Fermina was the setting for the I Regata de San Ginés, Canary Islands Cup of Sea Kayak, organized by the Canary Islands Canoeing Federation and the Marlines de Lanzarote Canoeing Club, with the support of the Department of Sports of the Arrecife City Council.
The event was attended by paddlers from Gran Canaria, Tenerife, Fuerteventura and Lanzarote. Six clubs competed in this first edition of the Regata de
San Ginés, highlighting the Marlines de Lanzarote Canoeing Club, which was proclaimed champion. The Amigos del Piragüismo Club won the runner-up, while the Real
Club Náutico de Gran Canaria won third place.
The Islote de Fermina, thanks to the support of the Art, Culture and Tourism Centers of Lanzarote, offered an unparalleled environment, allowing spectators to enjoy a 360-degree panorama to admire the five departures that took place throughout the day. More than 130 paddlers participated in this event, characterized by an atmosphere of fun, camaraderie and a very high sporting level.
In the first start, the winners were: Renata Locrielle (Prebenjamín Female) and Mario Medina (Prebenjamín Male), both from Club Marlines, together with Lucía Clavijo (Benjamín Female) and Benjamín Locrielle (Benjamín Male), also from the same club.
The second start corresponded to the alevín category, where Nahia Armas and Kevin Gálvez, both from Club Marlines, took the victory in the female and male categories, respectively. In the Popular Sub18 Male category, Hytam Naib, also from the Marlines, stood out. In the Popular Over 18 category, Cruz Sanginés and Ramsés Luzardo, from the conejero club, took the victory in their respective categories. In addition, Ana Cobham from the Amigos del Piragüismo Club stood out in the paracanoe category.
The third start, destined to the infantile category, underlined the importance of this stage for the formation of young paddlers. Isabella García and Tobías Locrielle won in Infantil B, while Maeva Carrión and Franco Ferrari did so in Infantil A, all from Club Marlines.
In the fourth start, corresponding to the cadets, the winners were Alejandra Mena (Cadet B Female, Club Amigos), Gavin Girota (Cadet B Male, Marlines), Diana
Hernández (Cadet A Female, Club Amigos) and Julian St. Mary (Cadet A Male, Club Amigos).
Finally, in the last start, considered the queen test due to its greater number of boats and categories, the results were as follows: Nur Hachawi (Youth
Female, Club Amigos), Eloy Woelke (Youth Male, Marlines), Pablo St. Mary (Sub23 Male, Club Amigos), Aimar García and Andrea Betancor (SS2 Mixed, Marlines), Giada
Cerniani (Senior Female, Marlines) and Víctor Rodríguez (Senior Male, Club Amigos). In the Veteran categories, the winners were Eleazar Borges (Veteran A, Anosma Surfski Tenerife), Pedro Lemes (Veteran B, Marlines), Andrés Cuello (Veteran D, Marlines) and Braulio Fernández (Veteran F, Marlines).
The I Regata de San Ginés, Canary Islands Cup of Sea Kayak, demonstrated once again that Lanzarote, and in particular Arrecife, is a paradise for the development of this sport. The conditions of the circuit, with calm waters in the bay and strong winds with waves after a few meters of departure, offered a magnificent experience for the athletes, who finished the day with a smile.
