The thirty-fifth edition of the 'Island League of Latin Sail Barquillos' of five meters of Lanzarote began with two exciting regattas, the 'Graciplús Trophy' and the 'Federico Pescamar Titerroy Trophy'. The competition was held in optimal conditions for this vernacular sport, and 17 of the 19 barquillos entered participated in the regularity competition.
The competition began at 11:00 in the morning, generating "great expectation" both among the participants and among the fans who gathered at the Insular Center of Nautical Sports to witness the start of the competition. Among the guests were Yonathan de León and Juan Monzón, Sports Councilor of the Cabildo of Lanzarote. However, the greatest recognition was given to Leonardo Armas, skipper of the Chinijo Archipelago 'Graciplus', who had recently been crowned 'J80 World Champion'.
In the first regatta, the 'Biosfera Express' of Marcos Enrique Rodríguez managed to escape gradually and won the 'Graciplús Trophy', followed by the 'Furia II Renault' of Estanis Bethencourt and the 'Fayna Salinas' of Janubio of Alfredo Morales. It is important to mention the outstanding performance of Santiago González with the 'Federico Pescamar Titerroy', who managed to come back and finish in fifth place.
After a short break, during which some boats made changes to the sails or crew, the second regatta began, the 'Federico Pescamar Titerroy Trophy'. This test was very close, with several boats competing for the top spots. It was in the last windward leg when the 'Romerito Líneas Romero' of David Martín stood out and achieved its first victory in the Insular League. Behind him came the 'Fayna Salinas' of Janubio of Alfredo Morales and the 'Archipiélago Chinijo Graciplús' of Nete Armas.
After these two regattas, the 'Fayna Salinas de Janubio' of Alfredo Morales leads the competition with five points, followed by the 'Furia II Renault' with six and the 'Biosfera Express' with seven points, the same as the 'Archipiélago Chinijo Graciplús' of Leonardo Armas. The competition will continue next Sunday with two new regattas, promising to maintain the "same intensity and passion" for this native sport.
