Elba García Martín, paddler from Los Marlines, wins a bronze medal in the European Sea Kayak Championship held in Cagliari (Sardinia, Italy) from September 12 to 18.
For this European event, the technical team of the Lanzarote club decided to take two women to be part of the Spanish national Kayak de Mar team. Inés Hernandez Carabias in SS1 U23 Women and Elba García Martín in SS1 Junior Women, were the paddlers from Los Marlines who would compete in the European Championship.
This Saturday, September 17, the queen regatta of the European Championship would take place, starting at Poeto beach in Cagliari and arriving 19.5 kilometers later at Geremeas beach. Good wave conditions and tailwind made it a very fast regatta, where surfing skills in the sea predominated.
The women, juniors, U23s and seniors started first. Inés and Elba started well positioned. Inés would have a good race, but unfortunately capsized 2 kilometers from the finish line, and had to retire, because the strong winds and waves snatched the canoe from her and she could not recover it.
Elba, on the other hand, was able to finish the race with a good result and obtain one of the four medals won by the Spanish Team. The paddler from Los Marlines entered the finish line of Geremeas in third position in the SS1 Junior Women category. A bronze medal that is the first in the history of the Marlines de Lanzarote Canoeing Club in a European Championship.
The rest of the medals for the Spanish team were won by Judit Vergés, gold in SS1 Senior Women; Chloe Bunnett, silver in SS1 Senior Women; and Walter Bouzan, bronze in SS1 Senior Men.
The Marlines club is very happy with the performance of its paddlers in the European Championship and the rest of the season. One more medal is added to the 209 medals (62 golds, 84 silvers, 63 bronzes) and 35 Titles that make up the track record of this team in the 2022 season.
The last event of the 2022 season will be the World Championship in Portugal from October 6 to 9, where we will also have representatives from Los Marlines.
