Very outstanding performance of the Costa Teguise Judo Club in the Canarian Senior Championship held last weekend in Gran Canaria. The Lanzarote expedition, made up of eight judokas, returned from the capital island with five medals to its credit, one of them gold, demonstrating once again the great level present in Lanzarote.
Alejandro Ramírez, technical director of the club, described the performance of the Lanzarote judokas in the competition as "notable high/outstanding", where he also remarked that "despite the minority of athletes of this discipline in Lanzarote compared to islands such as Gran Canaria or Tenerife where hundreds are present, we have once again played a prominent role in the competition."
Rubén Rodríguez was the great name after obtaining the gold medal in the -73 kg category after defeating Carlos Gutiérrez, from Akari – Las Nieves, in the final. This is the second consecutive year in which the Teguise club has repeated the award in this discipline.
On the other hand, Eleonora Gonella, in the -48 kg category, Míchel Fernández in -60 kg, Matti Drummond in -63kg and Sergio Agudo in -81kg, won the bronze medals for the Costa Teguise Judo Club.
In this way, the Lanzarote club closes its role in the competition with five medals to its credit, making a very positive assessment. However, the season is not over yet. Rubén de la Caridad will participate in the South Sector of the Spanish Championship, which will take place in Andalusia on September 17.
