CICAR Lanzarote Ciudad de Arrecife had the tough task of visiting Costa del Sol Málaga on Saturday afternoon, a rival fighting to place itself at the top of the standings. San José Obrero had the same absences as in the previous Wednesday's match, although on this occasion the game was dominated from the start by the Málaga team, who ultimately won by a clear 32 to 17.
The match began with an exchange of goals from both teams, with CICAR Lanzarote Ciudad de Arrecife even managing to take the lead twice with goals from Rocío Squizziato and Gema Trujillo. The score reflected an even 4-4 in the first ten minutes, and it was from that moment on that Costa del Sol Málaga began to take control of the situation.
Two goals from Sole López made the score 9-5, and Carlos Britos had to call the first timeout of the match with eight minutes left before halftime (12-8). The CICAR Lanzarote Ciudad de Arrecife held on until the end of the first half, and with a score of 14-9, the first 30 minutes of the match concluded.
The match definitively broke in the first few minutes of the second half, with the second period starting with an 8-1 run in favor of Costa del Sol Málaga, the scoreboard clearly showing 22-10 for the Málaga team. It had all happened in just six minutes of play, forcing Carlos Britos to call a timeout to stop the home team's onslaught.
With the wide difference reflected on the scoreboard, Costa del Sol Málaga controlled the match at will, and CICAR Lanzarote Ciudad de Arrecife's attempts to get back into the game were not rewarded. Many of the Lanzarote team's attacks crashed against an inspired Merche Castellanos in goal.
With the score at 32 to 17, the match came to an end, with CICAR Lanzarote Ciudad de Arrecife suffering a tough defeat and closing the first half of the Liga Guerreras Iberdrola without opening their points tally. The competition resumes on January 10, when San José Obrero visits the court of Caja Rural Aula Valladolid.
