CD Pingüinos shines in the Regional Winter Artistic Swimming Championship

The Lanzarote club was proclaimed champion of the Canary Islands in the children's and junior categories, and climbed to the third step of the podium in the youth category

The Club Deportivo Pingüinos of Arrecife participated this weekend in the Regional Winter Artistic Swimming Championship, achieving a great performance in the children's, junior and youth categories, and returning full of energy and motivation for the Spanish Championship that will be held in March.

The Lanzarote club was proclaimed champion of the Canary Islands in the children's and junior categories, and climbed to the third step of the podium in the youth category.

The expedition of the CD Pingüinos of Arrecife traveled to Gran Canaria on Friday, with a group of 35 swimmers to participate in the Regional Winter Artistic Swimming Championship. The competition took place on Saturday and Sunday at the Club Natación Metropole facilities, with the participation of more than a hundred swimmers from the children's, junior and youth categories.

The 35 members of the CD Pingüinos of Arrecife were accompanied by coaches Alessandra Mauri and Ylenia Rodríguez. A season that has begun with a completely renovated technical team, changing the training dynamics and the effort made has given its first positive results in this weekend's competition at the Regional Winter Artistic Swimming Championship.

In the children's category, the CD Pingüinos of Arrecife was proclaimed champion of the Canary Islands. The combo climbed to the top of the podium, as did Avril Bethencourt in the figures category, winning the gold medal in the general classification and in the 2014 figures category. Alba de Eusebio won the silver medal in 2014 figures and Vega Jiménez bronze in 2013 figures.

The CD Pingüinos of Arrecife was also proclaimed champion of the Canary Islands in the junior category, with an outstanding performance by all its members. The mixed duet formed by Miguel Martínez and Victoria Romero won the gold medal and the silver medal was won in the combo category. Individually, Miguel Martínez won silver in the general classification of figures and in 2011 figures, and won gold in male figures. For her part, Victoria Romero won bronze in 2010 figures in the junior category, and Eduardo Curbelo won silver in male figures.

The competition in Gran Canaria closed this Sunday with the youth competition, in which the CD Pingüinos of Arrecife won the bronze medal in the club classification. In addition, gold was won in the acrobatic category, and the technical duet of Vega Martínez and Adriana Cabrera won gold and silver in the free duet. And Vega Martínez won the silver medal in the solo.

The participation of the CD Pingüinos of Arrecife in the Regional Winter Artistic Swimming Championship has been possible thanks to the support of the Real Club Náutico de Arrecife, Ayuntamiento de Arrecife, Cabildo de Lanzarote, Ayuntamiento de Teguise and the Art, Culture and Tourism Centers of Lanzarote (CACTS).
