The phrase says that 'old rockers never die' and Club Balonmano Lanzarote Zonzamas was not going to destroy that phrase, so it has offered the renewal to its 'rocker', Rocío Guerrero. She, after having the club in suspense, decided to accept the proposal and, at thirty-seven years old, threatens to continue giving concerts on the court.
"I was encouraged to continue because it is true that last season left me with a bad taste in my mouth, we started very well, and we failed to finish the season as we deserved," explains the first line of the batatero team.
The player denies that she has been begged, what happens "is that I have thought about it a lot, a lot." Rocío, who lives and works in Tenerife and travels to Lanzarote to train and play with Zonzamas, justifies herself by saying that "for me it is already a great sacrifice to have to travel every weekend, that one is already of an age.....", she points out with the grace that characterizes her. "The board always counts on me, and I am more than grateful to this club, which is my home," says the player, who last year scored 87 goals for her team in a total of 21 games played.
Although she was left with a bittersweet taste from last season due to the cancellation of the league, she was also "super happy with the team that gave everything, always" and maintains her enthusiasm as the first day before a season that has all the ingredients to be so.
"Hopefully we will do a good job!", she exclaims. "It would be great for the team, for San Bartolomé and of course for Lanzarote to play a promotion phase", adding, "nothing I would like more than to retire like that". Let's hope that the promotion phase is played, but that of retiring....we'll talk about it another season.
