The CB Puerto del Carmen Women's Territorial League team achieved a new victory on Friday night, at the Municipal de Tías, in the island derby of the category against Zonzamas Yaizart (27-26) in a match corresponding to the fifth round of the regional competition.

The potato team started more plugged in and managed to gain a small lead that would last them until the halfway point of the first half, when Antonio Gabaldón adjusted the defense and tied the score at nine (min. 15:36).

Both teams were struggling offensively, with defenses dominating, leading to the first local timeout. After the break, a missile to the post from Amelia Gabaldón and Zonzamas didn't miss, a penalty goal (9-10, min. 20:48). Puerto, also from a penalty, and Gabaldón herself, in a spectacular run, put the black and golds ahead. After a thirsty journey through the desert, the match entered a phase of goal exchange. Former Tiñosera Carla Gillings put the visitors back in front, but Nayra Gil equalized at thirteen, from a penalty, heading into halftime.

After the restart, the locals had a partial of three to zero. Zonzamas wasted an early expulsion on the aurinegras (16-13, min. 4). The game was stopped due to a hard blow on a shot at Amelia Gabaldón. But Zonzamas dried up again, taking almost eight minutes to score again (18-14, min. 7.55). Now the partial was for the batateras. A two-minute penalty for Nayra Gil, for extralegal reasons, spiced up the game, but Puerto again woke up while shorthanded (19-17, min. 12). They reached the middle of the second half with Puerto two goals ahead (21-19)

Zonzamas once again wasted two minutes with the home team down a player. Little benefit from the "batateras" in superiority. Both teams made mistakes, but with the clock and the score in favor of the home team, the visitors grew rushed. Zonzamas tried to take advantage of another player disadvantage and tightened the score with five minutes left (25-24) and a shot from Yasmin Fernández tied the game at twenty-five with a sigh to spare (min. 26:40)

Ana Martín spread her wings to help her team, stopping a shot from Alejandra Caicedo. With two minutes left, Daniela Martín and, once again, Yasmin Fernández, tied the game at twenty-six. With one minute to play, Nayra Gil hit the post on a penalty, but Zonzamas missed. Gabaldón called a timeout with thirty-two seconds on the clock. Nayra Gil redeemed herself, this time scoring from the center with eight seconds left (27-26). Alexander Rivera, hopeful, called a timeout. The Tiñosa defense avoided a scare. Zonzamas had one last missile, with no time left on the clock, but the shot hit the aurinegro wall.

Yasmin Fernández became the top scorer of the match and of Zonzamas with eight goals. For the Tiñoseras team, Najara Gabaldón scored six goals, and two other players, Nayra Gil and Carla De Marco, scored five goals each. For the Tiñoso coach, Antonio Gabaldón, it was "an important match to keep fighting for the league, there's still a lot left, but it was important to get points at home against one of the strong teams in the category, we saw it on the court. In the first half, we tried to come out with a 5-1 and stop their outside shooting a bit, but they started to do damage in the pivot area, we tried to adjust the defense a bit more and we were able to control the attack they proposed with the pivot more or less. The first half was very even, there were pushes and pulls from both teams and in the end, it ended in a draw. In the second half, we tried to change the dynamic a bit in defense and attack, making the change in attack and defense, playing with two central defenders, two pivots, to better control their attack and the pivot. I think we controlled it a bit better and we also controlled their outside shooting, which sometimes did us quite a bit of damage. We could have pulled ahead by several goals in the second half, but between some mistakes we made and their incursions, they did us quite a bit of damage and the game was tied again. In the end, in the last minutes, in the last second, the draw came and we were able to execute a play we had prepared for these moments and it worked out perfectly for us, with the pass to the pivot, shot, and goal. Two important points. Now we have Tegueste, to keep fighting," concludes the aurinegro coach. On the sixth matchday of the Women's Territorial League, to be held on November 23rd at 12:45 PM, CB Puerto del Carmen will visit Balonmano Tegueste Clínica Veterinaria El Drago at the I.E.S.
