This past weekend, the talented players Bruno Fernández and Eduardo Curbelo traveled to the island of Tenerife to participate in the prestigious TOP TTR San Juan de la Rambla, a competition that brought together outstanding athletes from national badminton.
In the men's singles category, Eduardo Curbelo had a difficult start. In his first match, he faced Christian Farrais from CAPARINA BÁDMINTON, who clearly won in two sets, 5-21/3-21. Next, Curbelo faced Diego Perera, from TENZUL EL ROSARIO, the top seed in the tournament. Despite putting up great resistance, the final result was 7-21/17-21 in favor of Perera.
For his part, Bruno Fernández failed to overcome his opponents. In his first match, he faced the Canary Islander David Santiago from GRAN-K TOP SPIN, in a very tight match that ended in defeat by 14-21/16-21. In his second match, he faced the impressive Tenerife player Diego Pérez from TENZUL EL ROSARIO, who was far superior in the game, and Bruno conceded in two sets, 5-21/12-21.
However, the players from Lanzarote did not give up and demonstrated their ability in the men's doubles category, where they surprised many. In the semifinal, they faced the players Gerard Hernández and Alai Donghai Umaran from TENZUL EL ROSARIO, and achieved a resounding victory with a score of 21-6/21-16, which allowed them to reach the grand final.
In the final, the Curbelo-Fernández duo once again faced the talented Darío Perera and Diego Pérez, who ultimately took the victory by 13-21/10-21.
Despite the defeat in the final, the players from Lanzarote brought home the silver medal in the men's doubles category, a result that reflects the effort and dedication with which they fought in every point of the tournament.
