The Copa del Rey Mapfre, one of the most prestigious sailing competitions internationally, celebrated its forty-third edition last week in Palma de Mallorca, and it was attended by a large group of sailors representing the Real Club Náutico de Arrecife. Cristian Sánchez and Ricardo Terrades from Lanzarote, aboard the Estrella Damm Sailing Team, starred in the most brilliant performance, proclaiming themselves champions of the Copa del Rey Mapfre and conquering the ORC European Championship.

Up to four sailors from the Real Club Náutico de Arrecife were present in this edition of the Copa del Rey Mapfre. Cristian Sánchez competed aboard the Estrella Damm Sailing Team as a bowman and Ricardo Terrades as a mainsail trimmer. Nano Negrín was the tactician on the Elena Nova. And Alfredo González and Rayco Tabares were part of the Nadir team.

Throughout the week, a total of nine races were held, with maximum equality, and many boats arrived to the last day of competition with options to win the final triumph. In the two races of the last day, the Estrella Damm Sailing Team snatched the lead from Nadir, proclaiming themselves champions of the XLIII Copa del Rey Mapfre and also conquering the ORC European Championship.

In the second position of the general classification was the Elena Nova, with Nano Negrín on board the German boat, also being the runners-up of the ORC European Championship. And the Nadir of Rayco Tabares and Alfredo González concluded the competition outside the podium, classifying in a more than outstanding fourth position, despite starting as leaders the last day of regattas.

The president of the Real Club Náutico de Arrecife, Julio Romero, and the Board of Directors, wants to express their congratulations to "Cristian Sánchez and Ricardo Terrades, for once again positioning the name of our club at the top of one of the most prestigious events internationally." A congratulation that is also extended to Nano Negrín, Alfredo González and Rayco Tabares, for the "excellent role developed in Palma de Mallorca in the Copa del Rey Mapfre, occupying the first positions in the general classification."
