Arrecife concentrated island sports with the traditional San Silvestre Ciudad de Arrecife, in which just over thirteen hundred people participated.

The race program began shortly after 9:30 AM in Parque Islas Canarias. With the first notes of music came the first participants, the youngest ones. The first were the two- to four-year-olds with their fifty-meter race, followed by the little ones aged five to seven. Shortly after, it was the turn for the eight- and nine-year-olds, closing the children's participation with the eight-hundred-meter race for those in the ten to thirteen-year-old age range.

As the atmosphere heated up on a beautiful, sunny December day, almost certainly envied by the rest of the country, the last one of the year in Lanzarote, the time came for the warm-up before the adult race, led by Sandra Monagas. With exquisite punctuality, nearly a thousand adults took the start, covering and enjoying a good part of the city center along the five beautiful, regulation kilometersIn the women's category, the top of the podium was taken by Italy's **Giulia Vettor** (CUS Parma) with a time of 16:53. Germany's Kim Hinrichs (18:19) secured second place, while Claudia Iglesias Acebes (18:38) climbed to the third step. The men's podium was completed by Belgian Mathijs Casteele in first place (14'50), improving on last year's second position, followed by Slovak Dominik Ivancik of CD Zero Wattios (14:53), who also improved on last year's third place, with Hugo Pérez Robayna (15:30) closing the podium

The individual trophy for the most Christmas-themed attire went to Sadday Delgado Cabrera, dressed as a Santa Claus runner capable of finishing the race in under twenty minutes, according to a sign he wore on his back.

In the moments before the race, the Councilor for Sports of the Arrecife City Council, Eli Merino, took the floor, recalling that "Arrecife is a city where sport is very present and we are going to enter the new year with sport, with neighborly coexistence, with friends by our side, with family by our side and embracing Arrecife as what it is, the capital of sport. I want to thank enormously all the organization that has made this possible, thanks to all the participants and all the volunteers who are here to help make this race a success."For his part, the mayor, Yonathan De León, congratulated "the entire Arrecife Sports team for successfully organizing this San Silvestre 2026 with, once again, a record number of participants on a splendid day. We hope they enjoy not only the sport but also the different activities that have been organized for after this race, so that we can all stay in Arrecife and enjoy the New Year's Eve as they deserve. Good luck to all participants, may you have a happy new year, 2026, may it be as good as or better than this year we leave behind."Alongside the mayor and the councilor for Sports, the councilor Davinia Déniz, as well as the island councilor for Sports, Juan Monzón, were placing the medals on the participants as they crossed the finish line.
