The mayor of Arrecife, Yonathan de León, together with the councilor for Commerce, Tourism and Sports and spokesperson for the Popular Party, Eli Merino, presented this Friday, December 19, the San Silvestre Ciudad de Arrecife 2025 popular race, which will be held on December 31 and which this year unveils a new visual identity inspired by the historic center of the Lanzarote capital.

The presentation took place in the El Zaguán auditorium, at the Municipal Center for Citizen Participation, next to the recently reopened Argana Sports Pavilion. Alejandro Acuña also attended the event, representing Tripasión and Lumar Canarias, companies responsible for the logistical organization of this race, the last of the annual sports calendar on the island of Lanzarote.

During his speech, the mayor highlighted that this year's edition aims to break all participation records, with a forecast of nearly 1,600 registered participants, a figure that could be reached before Christmas Day. The official poster for the event, designed by the artistic firm Yaizart, recreates the silhouette of Arrecife with emblematic elements such as the Puente de las Bolas, the bell tower of the church of San Ginés, and the renovated Plaza de Las Palmas.

Yonathan de León emphasized that "the San Silvestre has established itself as an unmissable event on the city's sporting calendar and as a family activity that integrates perfectly into the extensive Christmas program organized by the City Council." In this regard, he recalled that Arrecife will be one of the main festive hubs of the Archipelago for New Year's Eve, including the broadcast of the special New Year's Eve program of Televisión Canaria, recorded in Charco de San Ginés.

This will be the thirteenth edition of the San Silvestre Ciudad de Arrecife. As explained by the Councilor for Sports, Eli Merino, registrations are still open for all those who wish to say goodbye to the year by practicing sports through some of the most representative enclaves of the capital, by the sea. Registrations must be made exclusively through the official event website: www.sansilvestrearrecife.es.

Merino highlighted that this event "reinforces the municipal strategy to position Arrecife as the capital of sports and major events," and also recalled that, according to the search engine Kayak, the city is among the most in-demand destinations for Spanish tourists during these Christmas and New Year's holidays.

The day begins at ten in the morning

The day will begin at 10:00 AM with the children's race, while the adult race will start at 12:00 PM, with the start and finish line at Parque Islas Canarias. The route will be similar to last year's edition and will run along the city's coastline, including the area around Charco de San Ginés, where the Christmas Fair is located, the new pedestrian promenade along El Reducto beach, and other emblematic areas of the urban center"The objective is to continue energizing Arrecife not only from a cultural and festive point of view, but also from a sporting one," said the mayor, who thanked the work of the Sports Department, municipal technical staff, and collaborating entities. He also highlighted that on December 31st, parallel activities will take place in different parts of the city such as Plaza de Las Palmas, La Recova, Navilan, and the Islas Canarias Park itself, with the aim of making the Arrecife coastline the epicenter of Christmas in the Canary Islands.

The organization anticipates record participation of nearly 1,600 runners, consolidating the San Silvestre Ciudad de Arrecife as a non-competitive event, designed for enjoyment, camaraderie, and the promotion of sports among families and friends. The City Council encourages participants to come in Christmas attire and with festive details to add even more holiday spirit to a day that promises to be a spectacular year-end for the capital of Lanzarote.
