The eighth edition of the Lanzarote Quemao Class has begun this Tuesday morning on the island. In this context, "the wave conditions and the level of all the competitors have already left images to remember", they say from the realization of the event in a statement.
One of the great surprises at the beginning of the competition has been the young Makoa Gómez, who advanced first in his series with very good scores. "Super happy to be able to compete this year, the truth is that it is a dream come true for me. I started with good scores, I was finding my waves in a very tense series, with very strong competitors." The young local surfer grew up right in front of this wave, which has helped him to have an advantage. "The conditions were not easy, and you had to look for the best waves," he adds.
Also highlighting the American surfer Mason Barnes, who commented how "we have never had such incredible waves at home. We have good waves, but nothing compared to this here today." This has been his first time competing in El Quemao and he has found a wave that has exceeded his expectations. "This wave is even better than I could have imagined, it is one of the best waves I have ever seen," he stressed.
For his part, in bodyboarding, the Hawaiian Mike Stewart stood out. "There are not many places in the world where the conditions align in such a way that it offers such a technical type of wave as this, and this is really one of those places. With the right tide and wind, everything aligns. This is a truly unique place in the world, and it is one that I have always wanted to come to, and have the opportunity to compete. This wave is very similar to the one I am used to in Hawaii, which is the Pipeline wave. This may be a little smaller, but the conditions and characteristics of this wave are much better," highlighted the Hawaiian bodyboarder.
The bodyboarder from Reunion Island Amaury Lavernhe has achieved the first 10.00 am of the morning with a spectacular wave. "It is being incredible, being able to compete like this with these waves, surrounded by people, is something exceptional. With this event, surfing and bodyboarding together, we are very happy. I feel very comfortable in this wave."
