Last Sunday, November 26, the 'Gran Canaria Karate Championship 2023' was held at the Santa Brígida Municipal Sports Society Pavilion. A regional championship organized by the Canary Islands Karate Federation. The 'Karate Poliarrecife' club participated with two competitors: Amelie Yaiza Skiba and Caleb Padrón. The first was proclaimed champion in the two modalities she competed in, obtaining the gold medal in 'Female Cadet Kata' and in 'Female Cadet Kumite -47-54 kgs'.
The other member of the competition, Caleb Padrón, who participated in 'Male Children's Kumite -30-35 kgs.', despite performing a "very commendable performance", did not have the option to fight for the medals, the club has reported.
With this result, Amelie confirms her dominance in the Canary Islands in her category, both in Kata and Kumite, and demonstrates her "good moment" to face the last day of the 'WKF Youth League' (World Karate League for athletes aged 12 to 20) that will be held in Venice from December 7 to 10, and in which the karateka from the Arrecife club will participate.
