The Mar Menor, in Murcia, has been the setting this week for the celebration of a new edition of the Snipe Spanish Cup, a national competition in which the Royal Nautical Club of Arrecife has been widely represented with the presence of eight crews. Alfredo González and Cristian Sánchez, in their return to the Snipe class, have once again shown their good performance in the regatta field, an experience that has earned them the title of champions of the Snipe Spanish Cup this Sunday.
The Los Nietos Yacht Club has been the organizer of the Snipe Spanish Cup, a competition that has featured the participation of 91 boats and being a qualifier for
the 2026 Snipe World Championship which will be held from September 19 to 26 in Menorca. An international projection that has raised the level of the participating sailors.
The Royal Nautical Club of Arrecife has had the participation of eight crews in the Spanish Snipe Cup. The regatta team has been made up of Alfredo González – Cristian Sánchez, Pedro de León – Óscar Pattenden, Miguel Ángel Guerra – Luis Miguel Hernández, Rafael Lasso – Alonso Pérez, Leonardo Armas – Miguel Bethencourt, Miguel Ángel Lasso – Marcos Peraza, Pedro Ferrer – Yaimur Hernández and Matías Garcías – Alejandro Alonso.
Alfredo González and Cristian Sánchez placed themselves at the front of the general classification from the first day of races in the Mar Menor, defending the lead until the two final races held this Sunday. In the eight races disputed, the sailors of the Real Club Náutico de Arrecife scored partial victory in three of them, finishing two races in third place and another in sixth position.
A regularity that has allowed Alfredo González and Cristian Sánchez to lift the title of champions of the Snipe Spanish Cup, and return strongly to the class. The Lanzarote sailors were proclaimed in the year 2024 Snipe World champions, and they have taken the Mar Menor event as a first point of contact for the Snipe World Championship that will be held in September in Menorca.
The president of the Real Club Náutico de Arrecife, Julio Romero, and the Board of Directors, wish “to congratulate Alfredo González and Cristian Sánchez for the title of champions of the Snipe Spanish Cup, once again demonstrating to be the great dominators of this class at a national level and placing the name of the club and Lanzarote at the top”. Congratulations that they also extend to the rest of the crews that have represented the Real Club Náutico de Arrecife in the Snipe Spanish Cup.
