With a little more heat on Thursday than on Friday's closing day, two hundred boys and girls from 5th and 6th grade of Primary from the schools CEIP Yaiza, CEIP Playa Blanca, CEIP Uga and CEO Playa Blanca, enjoyed two intense and exciting days in the second edition of the Yaiza School Olympics that leaves a frame of honor of two hundred champions, because more than competing the objective of meeting around the development of healthy activities is that students learn what are the values that are worked through sport.

In the balance of the Olympics, boys and girls express better than anyone the spirit of this meeting organized by the Yaiza Town Council and public schools with the involvement of the entire southern educational community. Valentina, from CEO Playa Blanca, points out that "some have lost and others have won, but even so we all feel that we have won".

For his part, Adrián, from CEIP Uga, says that "I had a great time because all the sports have been super entertaining and I was able to live with students from other schools", while Aythami, from CEO Playa Blanca, was happy to "make several classifications of dodgeball, soccer and other sports". The Yaiza Olympics also had competitions in high jump, shot put, speed, Canarian ball, endurance, 4×100 relays, 8-a-side soccer and Canarian wrestling.

The mayor of Yaiza, Óscar Noda, who presided over the awards ceremony together with the Councilor for Sports, Ángel Lago, the Councilor for Citizen Security, Beatriz Vázquez, and management teams from the schools on the municipal soccer field, points out that "boys and girls have enjoyed and shared experiences in an atmosphere of cooperation among students from different centers, so from public administrations we are called to continue promoting healthy leisure activities that contribute to the personal development of our youngest population".

Councilor Ángel Lago highlights "the motivation of the students to compete and learn. We saw it especially in Canarian wrestling where boys and girls dressed in wrestling clothes and learned the dynamics of this native sport that from Yaiza we want to promote much more. Our commitment is to consolidate the Olympics with more participation of students and incorporate more sports disciplines".

The Olympics also left a very good taste in the mouths of the southern teachers. "It is important for the centers this type of events because we promote sportsmanship, we promote companionship and we see a day in which the students of a school play and integrate with the students of other centers. What we try is that they have a good time, that they enjoy sports, that they learn to win, that they learn to lose, and those are the values that we instill from the School Olympics of the municipality of Yaiza", concludes the teacher and secretary of CEIP Playa Blanca, José María Sánchez.
