The Civil Guard has filed four complaints so far this year 2017 against bazaar-type establishments in Lanzarote for "the sale of pornographic articles and gadgets in the shape of a penis, being a very busy area for minors", according to sources from the Benemérita informed La Voz. Of the four complaints, two have been filed against premises in Arrecife, one in Playa Honda and another in Costa Teguise.

The complaints have been sent by the Benemérita to the Ministry of Employment, Social Policies and Housing of the Autonomous Community of the Canary Islands as the exposure of these souvenirs in the street constitutes an infraction of Law 1/1997 of February 7, on Comprehensive Care for Minors in the Canary Islands.

Therefore, it is likely that the establishments denounced could face a fine, as they should have these products in another part of the premises and not in view of passers-by, according to the source.

La Voz has learned of these complaints from the Civil Guard as a result of the controversy sparked by the request that Nueva Canarias made this weekend for "a new regulation to be applied to set the conditions for displaying souvenirs for tourists with pornographic character in public roads". The formation assured that these articles distort the image of the island and urgently requested the intervention of the Lanzarote Foreign Promotion Society, since one of its objectives is the correct promotion of its image, the unification of tourism promotion, also being responsible for the marketing that takes place on it.
