The Canary Islands Observatory of Computer Crimes (ODIC) has detected "a wave" of incidents in the face of the increase in attacks on WhatsApp accounts in the Canary Islands, especially on the islands of Tenerife, La Gomera and La Palma.

In a statement, the ODIC reports that it is receiving reports from users who say they are receiving messages from family or acquaintances' phones where they are required to provide WhatsApp verification codes.

The observatory recommends adopting permanent security measures to avoid being exposed to these 'phishing' type attacks.
