Why Echedey Eugenio?

April 6 2019 (12:43 WEST)

I could go on at length, and I will on another occasion, about the multiple projects of the Cabildo or the Government of the Canary Islands, as well as about the strategic projects of great importance for the city model that we propose from the Biosphere Reserve by order of the City Council, and that in many cases have been left by the wayside due to a lack of municipal cooperation. I want to believe that it is due to a lack of capacity, not a lack of will.

However, on this occasion I have preferred to focus on some of the many initiatives and projects that we have materialized in the capital and in which Echedey Eugenio has had a lot to do.

I do it because I understand that it is a good way to illustrate with facts - beyond the high concept that I effectively have of him as a public manager and the human quality that he undoubtedly treasures - why both Arrecife and the Cabildo need someone like him and his team at the head of the city. To do this, it is worth remembering that Echedey has delegated the maximum political responsibility both in the Tourist Centers (CACT) and in the Water Consortium, as well as in Tourist Planning, and before he had it in the Emergency Consortium or the Waste Area, all managed with notable efficiency and in close coordination with other departments, thus proving his capacity for teamwork and cooperation. Namely, although there have been many other projects carried out by the Cabildo of Lanzarote in Arrecife, these are just some of those in which Echedey Eugenio has had a direct influence in the capital:

1- Restoration by the CACT of the Islote de la Fermina, after almost half a century of waiting for its availability to the public, of imminent opening to be managed also by the CACT.

2- Opening and management by the CACT of La Casa Amarilla (old Cabildo on Calle Real de Arrecife) where seven exhibitions have been masterfully mounted by the Data Center of the Cabildo under the umbrella of the project "Digital Memory of Lanzarote".

3- Management of the restoration in "El Almacén" of Manrique, with extraordinary success and very high user ratings, attracted also by a varied and rich cultural content, merit of the Culture area.

4 - Opening of "Espacio 48", an open innovation center of the Cabildo of Lanzarote in the street Triana de Arrecife in which the CACT have transformed an old building into a modern, open and functional space, which has become the stage for the concentration and exchange of knowledge and experiences between professionals from different fields around the tourism industry.

5- Management by the CACT of the Archaeological Museum of Lanzarote, opened in its 1st phase under the brilliant museum direction of the Heritage Area of the Cabildo of Lanzarote.

6- Model restoration of the Castillo de San José after decades of deterioration, and incorporation of a new ecological air conditioning system using geothermal energy, a modality also used in the reopening works of the Islote de la Fermina.

7- Orchestrated Neighborhoods. Important economic support to the development of this magnificent project in Argana Alta -exclusive merit of its promoters- with the vocation of extending it to other neighborhoods of the capital this year.

8- Restoration of the Maretas del Estado by the Insular Water Consortium, under the supervision and direction of the Heritage Area.

9- Construction of a new and model pumping station in Portugal Street by the Insular Water Consortium, after decades of noise and bad odors from the old station.

10- Renovation of networks and desalination plants with an investment of the Water Consortium around 12 million euros.

11- Launching of the 2nd wind farm of Lanzarote in Punta de los Vientos for an amount of 5.6 million euros, investment that will contribute to meet the objective included in the Lanzarote Strategy 2020, which aims to achieve before that date, that 20% of the energy consumption that occurs in Lanzarote comes from clean energy.

12- Master plan of rainwater of Arrecife. Elaborated by the Consortium by order of the City Council.

These are just some of the palpable examples of how, thanks to his effective management and without governing in the city, it has been possible to develop varied and important projects in it and why Echedey Eugenio and his team deserve the opportunity to be at the head of the government in the capital. Even more important are the projects that we have in the government program of Coalición Canaria (CC) for the City Council and the Cabildo, and that will mean a before and after for Arrecife and Lanzarote -without forgetting the rest of the municipalities- if we both have the opportunity to lead the government teams in these two institutions. But I'll tell you about that another day.
