In the Spanish language spoken in the Canary Islands, "boliche" is used instead of "canica" to refer to the small ball of baked clay, glass, or other material that children usually play with by rolling it on the ground, trying to hit the other participants' balls. The game in which these balls are used is also called by the same name. There are also other words in the Spanish of the Islands that refer to different types of marbles depending on their size or the material they are made of. Thus, the smallest marble, but most appreciated by children, is known as "bonitura" in Lanzarote; "chinchina" in La Palma; and "chinchorra", "chindela" or "pimpa" in Tenerife. The one that is larger than normal is called "tarra" in Lanzarote, and "vacota" and "vacuna" in Tenerife. The one that came from the ball that the old soda bottles brought was called "gasea" in Gran Canaria and "gaseosa" in Lanzarote. If the marble has interior decorations, it is called "vidrianza" in Gran Canaria; and in Lanzarote and Fuerteventura, they call "virula" the glass marble.
