To our friend Luis Víctor Parrilla in his departure

August 18 2016 (13:44 WEST)

Since we were kids, we shared class at Don José M Espino's school, with the rivalries typical of those from Mesón and Volcán. You soon secured the position of "head altar boy" with the vehemence of Father José Quintero, the trips to the institute on Pepe's bus, each trip an episode and a story to tell. When we managed to wear our first long pants, we enjoyed the same music and dances at Emilio's casino.

We coincided, halfway, in the teaching stage in Las Palmas and later we followed each other's luck in the destinations and transfer competitions through different places in the Canary Islands, we shared difficult moments and celebrated recoveries from life's setbacks. I was lucky to share tasks at the Island Directorate of Education of Lanzarote for four complicated years, I was recovering from a serious health breakdown, from which we emerged, thank God. The educational difficulties in those years were pressing and demanded immediate responses, more than once you confessed to me: -"this is a wild colt difficult to tame". Your patience and composure helped to discern the moments of high tension.

We returned to the "tranquility" of the classrooms in our town of Tías and now we were enjoying our retirement, we had some laughs whenever we could. Luis, apart from being a good and witty person, had room for intelligent humor. I remember the day you arrived at the "municipal judiciary" when you were appointed Justice of the Peace, you commented: -"it is not easy to replace the "senior judge" with more than thirty years of service".

Paradoxes of life, friend Luis, you delighted us by reviewing your experiences in the emotional proclamation of the past San Pedro festivities. No one was going to foresee that in your reading of the memories, you were preparing your immaculate "Service Record" as a good teacher in this life to show it to our patron saint San Pedro there at the gates of the other kingdom.

Your good deeds will always prevail, friend.
