The unbearable lightness of being

April 14 2021 (14:57 WEST)

I was reading this weekend what was published about Alejo Schapire's book, The Progressive Betrayal, in the El País newspaper on March 9 and in the A vivir que son dos días program, on the SER network, on Saturday, April 10, among others. Both interviews refer to the content of the book, which is none other than the bleeding that is taking place in left-wing voters in the face of political parties incapable of responding to the expectations of their potential electorate.

I am not going into the tensions between the anti-totalitarian and anti-imperialist left, only the inhuman migration policy deserves a separate chapter, but I recognize the accurate betrayal of a dogmatic, reactionary and identity-based left-wing policy. From the perspective of defending the territory and preserving life, left-wing parties show daily that they are subject to the rules of this voracious and murderous neoliberalism into which prevailing capitalism has become.

A glaring example of this betrayal is the unbearable lightness of the land management and environmental policy of the Government of the Canary Islands. The being Valbuena languishes in the face of the strength of the being Julio Pérez, and in its lightness falls the raison d'être of the left. Of course, calling the policy of the socialist party left-wing is already being generous.

Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven, governments and parliaments.

Three examples, so as not to bore the audience. The Land Law of the Clavijo Government, known as the Land Speculation Law, the one that was the hobbyhorse of the electoral campaign, the electoral promise of the left-wing parties, has become known as the Land Law of the Flower Pact. Blessed by the apostles of Mr. Pérez, the left-wing Government eats it in its most biblical sense: to fill someone with goods, to make them prosper. The providence of arbitrariness, the declaration of general interest and subjective interpretation is distributed among the predators of the territory.

Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth, the soil.

Second example: the incorporation into the Government of the Canary Islands of the accused and already charged Blas Acosta. That puerile explanation given by the President of the Government of the Canary Islands, Ángel Víctor Torres, willing to make us believe that it is not that he is condescending to corruption, it is not that he is subject to it, no, it is that the public crimes imputed to Blas Acosta in the exercise of his office are not corruption. And he puts it with a shoehorn in the Government of the Canary Islands, masterfully displaying what is popularly called an insult to intelligence. The president takes us for fools.

Blessed are those who are persecuted because of justice, for the kingdom of heaven - and of the Government - belongs to them.

Third example: the state transfer of competence over the management of the coasts to the Government of the Canary Islands. The step is comparable to the approval of the Land Speculation Law, the destruction of our coasts will be immeasurable. The litmus test is the uncontained and undisguised euphoria of the business sector, led by the leader of the Canary Islands business community, Jorge Marichal, convicted of tax fraud.

Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted, and showered with gifts.

From the autonomous government it is openly declared: "We assume the commitment to provide legal certainty and reasonable response times so that an investment has the capacity to materialize." Without cutting a hair, listen. Thus, in public statements, the Government promises "greater agility, proximity and sensitivity" in the "management of titles of occupation and use of the public maritime-terrestrial domain, especially the granting of authorizations and concessions and, in any case, concessions for fixed works at sea", as well as "the regulation and management of the economic-financial regime of the public maritime-terrestrial domain" and "the execution of works and actions on the Canary Islands coast when they are not of general interest".

What the Government of the Canary Islands is telling us is that the powers are exercised differently depending on who holds them and that, due to "proximity" and "direct dialogue", they guarantee that the law will be "interpreted" in such a way that it adapts like a glove to the hand to the needs of the sector. What, translated into divine language, means that the miracle will work in the projects that "with the same law" have been denied by Coasts, such as the Fuente Santa water park, the Oliva Beach Hotel or the La Tejita Hotel.

Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for justice, for they will be satisfied. It is difficult to satisfy someone who suffers from gluttony.

And the guardian angels celebrate it with great commotion, because, not having enough with the kingdom of heaven, they glimpse the objective of continuing to plunder the public coffers to continue destroying the islands with manifest impunity and connivance of the right and left parties.

And this is how the left-wing electorate, environmentalism and the very future of the islands are betrayed, which, being an archipelago and having been declared the State of Climate Emergency, has nothing else to do but occupy the coasts with new tourist infrastructures and spend public money on continuing to build promenades on the coasts that the sea will soon eat away.

The Manna is called the Recovery Plan, which will be 72,000 million. In the Canary Islands it will be spent on tourist monoculture, it will be distributed by corrupt people among corrupt people and under corrupt criteria. And the only possibility of preparing the islands to face the socio-economic, energy and climate crisis that is coming will be liquidated. It will be executed by a left-wing government and they will ask us for our vote in no time. We have to be pragmatic, someone told me recently... I would like to know what some people mean by being pragmatic with corruption.

Blessed are the meek: for they will possess the earth, the soil, the subsidy and the government.
