We are witnessing again a regrettable situation in the plenary session of the island's capital. One more example of how badly island politics work. Between CC and PSOE they have had the island paralyzed for 15 years now. They said then that the PIL was the worst, but since then, nothing of any importance has been done or agreed upon on this island. Neither the PIOL nor the Environmental Body is approved, nor is the Congress Palace or fairground built. The health situation or public housing is not improved. How to think about giving security and optimal conditions to investments on the island that create work in this situation. Thinking about the development of agriculture, or other alternative sectors, in the face of this paralysis is a pipe dream.
Let's hope that Tourism continues to support our economy, because if it's up to our politicians, we will only have endless sports events, concerts and capricious museums with million-dollar costs and no visitors. Tapas, cheese, wine, or whatever you want fairs until you squeeze and kill the goose. Many grateful stomachs live off these political parties without caring the least about the progress of the island. Only Manuel Cabrera always showed his concern and complaint about the situation, until it cost him his resignation a few months ago, for making the all-powerful president of the Cabildo uncomfortable with his truths. He resigned his salary and armchair. Unusual case on our island.
They looked for a way to end the PIL, and it is dead. Ramon Bermúdez has ended up surrendering it to CC for his release in Education. Now diluting it in that ghostly party called Lava. Which has one name as easily as another. Which is composed of three parties as easily as two, although only one shines. Which at the beginning was an unusual Socialist-Nationalist-Insularist but ends up being what it simply is: a subproduct of CC. With Insularism disappeared, the island was left in the hands of partisanship. You can be from CC or PSOE. Or from the remaining parties that in turn are satellites of these on the island. Thus PP, San Borondón, Lava... are at the service of CC. And Podemos, NC-Somos... at the service of the PSOE. The war between them, with Insularism disappeared, has left Lanzarote plunged into emptiness. In abandonment. With hardly any important public investments in the last 15 years.
On other islands they never stop improving roads, sports facilities, or inventing Metros, Trams or whatever they can think of. While here, proposing to bury some sections of conflictive roads, such as the exit from Arrecife to San Bartolomé (hospital area), are described by our own political representatives as crazy, saying that it is expensive or that it takes a lot of maintenance. Surprising and sad. Thus the money goes to other islands. Perhaps all this is the biggest reason for having created: UPLanzarote (UNITED FOR LANZAROTE AND LA GRACIOSA)
What happened today in the plenary session of Arrecife reflects again the children's game that the representatives of CC and PP, in this case, play in politics. Not only do they leave the plenary session because they understood that it was over, which being so would not be debatable. They could leave and criticize later what they deem appropriate. But it is that in their eagerness to look for a mess, that justifies a photo, they went to court with who knows what childish motivation. As if the courts were not already sufficiently collapsed with serious matters. Our politicians are so happy collecting their salaries that they only think about their parties, but few about the citizens. Those from CC have already left the town hall, in another absurd childish spectacle, to end up collected on salary in the Cabildo. The point is to give spectacle after spectacle, in this bad theater that politics has become in Lanzarote. While the years pass and nothing moves on our island, nothing is agreed, and therefore nothing is invested or improved. From UPLanzarote we ask our politicians to end this shameful and childish situation. CC, PSOE and their satellites should focus on making policies and reaching agreements for all. And if not, make way for the new Insularism that we from UPLanzarote (United for Lanzarote) represent to put politics at the positive service of La Graciosa and Lanzarote.
