The regression club: when the right wing joins forces to screw the worker

September 11 2025 (17:33 WEST)

Spain proves once again that it is a country where clocks tell the time... but always backwards.
The Congress had in its hands the opportunity to take a historic step with the reduction of the working day to 37.5 hours per week.
And what happened? Well, the right and the extreme right - PP, Vox and Junts - joined forces to knock it down.

Yes, it doesn't matter if they act "modern", "responsible managers" or "defenders of freedom".
When it comes to choosing between the welfare of the majority or the interest of a few businessmen, the right wing always knows which side to take.

The PP, faithful squire of the employers, hid behind the fact that without the approval of the bosses nothing could be approved.
Come on, first we ask the employer if he wants the worker to come home with time to see his children.
And as expected, the employers said no... and Feijóo ran to obey.

Vox, in its line of occurrences, rejected the measure because "there is not enough employment in Spain".
In other words, according to them, the solution is not to better distribute working time, but to have people working 50 hours a week.
A perfect recipe for the worker to remain a modern slave, yes, wrapped in flags.

And then there is Junts, who are only independentists in name when it comes to voting.
They decided to defend the Catalan employers with the argument that this harms SMEs.
As if the exploited waiters on the Rambla were multi-millionaire businessmen.
70% of their voters support the reduction of the working day, but it seems that in Junts they prefer to listen to the offices than to the people.

Meanwhile, 12 million workers are left without that break of two and a half hours less a week.
A measure that would have meant more time to live, reconcile and rest.
But of course, modernizing Spain is not a priority when the right wing decides that the best thing to do is to remain anchored in the last century.

The unions are already announcing mobilizations and the Government promises to try again.
But the message has been clear: the right and the far right voted against the workers.
And in that portrait, PP, Vox and Junts are together, scrambled and well portrayed: three different parties, one same agenda, and zero interest in the dignified life of ordinary people.
