The multicolored diversity of nations (Remedies for blindness)

One of the frequent diseases, after the age of 60, is Macular Degeneration. It is a pathology that occurs when one of the structures that forms the eye, the macula, is damaged. If the macula is damaged, the images that reach the brain are not clear.

Ophthalmologists classify this problem as metamorphopsia and define it as "visual impairment in which objects appear with a different shape or size than they actually have." Personally, I find a lot of similarity between this visual problem and the social and political analyses that anyone makes of the current situation, with the difference that in the latter, those who distort reality do not have to be over 60.

When a person with social awareness or firm political ideology constantly surrenders to political-social work, it is common for them to end up immersed in a bubble where only their colleagues or other people who are not going to discuss their ideology enter. In the end, what is achieved is an isolation that keeps them on the margins of reality. Another type of self-discrimination and voluntary maladjustment that does little to influence society in another way, leaving the reins of possible progress in the hands of those who trace their own project of the future from the institutions.

Possibly whoever settles in political power tends to become a conservative, or to favor only changes to perpetuate himself in it. In fact, many people associate political blindness with absolutism and already Saramago, in his Essay on Blindness, implies that in a state of generalized blindness violence is sensed but transcends, gathering power in whoever exercises it in the shadows.

The control of the media is part of premeditated social blindness. Acculturation, the culture of consumption or the sale of the social democratic welfare state, the loyalty of the client of capitalism, are in charge of the interpretation of the news to which the editorial boards surrender. As Horacio Verbitsky said, "Journalism is spreading what someone does not want to be known; the rest is propaganda." So we can conclude that today there is less journalism than media. A lot of propagandists and few journalists. Mass media being authentic tools of social manipulation: authentic factories of blindness.

The proclamation of the unity of the left justified as a need to end the liberal or capitalist exercise is a clear commitment to bipartisanship, to perpetuate the same system. A capacity for political analysis is needed that admits the values of the most radical left. That is capable of seeing social reality beyond figures and exclusive electoral results. That admits the value that, for example, the abertzale movement has had in the history of the last 40 years of the Spanish State. The rest are cravings for power that border on absolutism, technocratic policies capable of putting asphalting before human rights and, ultimately, political blindness conducive to black and white societies.

Get out of the bubbles and interpret reality beyond the messages of the mass media. Project an inclusive colored society, where self-management, emancipation and even the independence of the most mature societies are promoted. But of course, only if we truly believe in a project of equality and future diversity and not in human standardization as a form of control. Otherwise, what we are going to have is a concept of social justice that will give equality to slaves, standardizing the worst labor and social conditions, to sustain two parties in power, and one spare, and that sheepish mass that possibly, on the borders, will continue to see everything in black and white.
