The last-minute rush to hide the abandonment of Teguise and La Graciosa

Studying for exams at the last minute is usually not good advice. Especially when you've had more than ten years to get your act together. What is indisputable is that Teguise and La Graciosa fell into the saddest and most self-centered of neglects shortly after the Canary Coalition came to power.

The thirst for power and armchairs with greater renown of the mayor, Oswaldo Betancort, has led him to an insulting neglect of the municipality that pays him. But in addition, paid for by Teguise and Graciosa residents, he has been campaigning for months, first for the longed-for Canarian Parliament and then, as even his own prefer to put a brake on those cravings for power, to preside over the Cabildo. And after years of ignoring Teguise and giving long delays to the neighborhood, he leaves us his lifelong subordinate, Olivia Duque, as a candidate for Teguise, O&O. Someone who has allowed the mayor to neglect his obligations to move for a seat elsewhere for years and whose greatest merit is having endured him and not joining the group of CC Teguise colleagues who left for not putting up with the mayor. All the councilors of the government group are quiet lest they be struck by lightning from the mayor's office. In short, they have allowed all of us to pay a mayor who has not acted as such, but we have been paying him for years to associate with the cream of the Canarian Parliament. I repeat, their silence makes them complicit in such shamelessness as to now fill us with empty promises and hopeful words. More of the same.

But the misnamed opposition is almost as guilty. In the PP of Teguise they have emptied the magazine. We went from a defector with pretensions to ignoring the defector's replacement to place a former PIL candidate, Rita Hernández. All very coherent. It remains to be seen whether Mrs. Hernández has lost the Dimas essence in the decade she has been away from politics or whether she is a retro version of the double o, Oswaldo and Olivia themselves.

In the PSOE, more of the same. A lot of criticism of the disappeared mayor of CC when his head of the list, Marcos Bergaz, is lost in the corridors of the Cabildo. It is his second, Jennifer Galán, the usual in press releases and various media but yes, with the boss crouching until shortly before the elections. I repeat, more of the same but loaded to the brim with cynicism when criticizing almost their mirror.

For the rest, we arrive, with me, Laureano Álvarez, at the head of a group that, undoubtedly, will have its debatable things but that promises not to lie in the face of the neighborhood and think only of Teguise, we do not want false youthful love affairs for the Cabildo or in the Parliament, we only want Teguise and La Graciosa. Taking into account the misgovernment and the weak opposition that we have had, we can guarantee that not lying and wanting only Teguise are milestones in the municipality for more than a decade. In the coming weeks we will show you that Teguise needs new blood, our blood.
