The insular political and media landscape

May 17 2019 (11:43 WEST)

Last week, we sent a note to the citizens and the media thanking most of the media for the welcome given to this new insularist and independent party, UNIDOS POR LANZAROTE (UPL). We are aware of our humility and know the difficulty of the media and citizens in the face of so many parties. But given the disappointment and scam that existing parties are representing for the people of Lanzarote, we have had to create another party as the best way to change some things. We sincerely believe that UPL in a short time, with its many opinion pieces, its daily work, its own and independent role has deserved the space that some media have given us. Only Lancelot has not given us any opportunity to present ourselves, or to have a presence. And the truth is that we also appreciate it, because it clarifies the insular political landscape for citizens, as we have been explaining.

Lancelot works with tireless effort and without the slightest disguise for CC. It desperately needs the ownership of the media so that Pedro San Gines remains at the head of CC and the Cabildo. Lancelot is the CC media outlet, and CC is the party of the owner of said media outlet. In fact, it is financed by TV CANARIA of the Canary Islands Government, also of CC. Lancelot and CC believe that they can manipulate the people of Lanzarote from their economic power and their media. Being so, we understand and accept that UPL has no place in Lancelot.

They also need to promote the "crutches or satellites" of CC: PP and LAVA. Nothing better than PP and LAVA for San Gines to continue putting the Cabildo at the service of the ownership of Lancelot, instead of at the service of the people of Lanzarote. And we have been like this for 10 years. We have nothing against any businessman, but no one should think that they can deceive all the people of Lanzarote no matter how much economic power and media they have. We will do everything possible to help local businesses, their future is our future. But within the regulations and legislation. The opposite of what Gladys Acuña did, putting the City Council at the service of a businessman, for which she has been convicted by the TSJC. That Gladys approached CC dangerously, perhaps to win the position in parliament, was guessed as soon as she put the local police of the municipality under the orders of Pedro San Gines without further consideration. To seize, "in the purest Maduro style", a private property in the south of the island for the benefit of Canal Gestión (Another of San Gines' sponsors). By the way; Will Lancelot remove from its website the photo-banner of Gladys that has been announcing that political falsehood called LAVA for months?, or is it part of the gratitude for the favors rendered. Will this party remove the campaign posters in which, to deceive citizens into voting for LAVA, they use the image of someone who they know from the beginning is disqualified and therefore ineligible? It seems to be the only way for Ramón Bermúdez to be elected as San Gines wishes, but the rules should be equally enforceable for everyone. They are willing to break any rule so that San Gines can continue to lead the "chiringuito", as he himself baptized the Cabildo of Lanzarote. UPL has nothing against anyone, nor do we wish anyone harm. But we are not willing to be anyone's puppets, to deceive anyone, or to be deceived.

We are aware that in some other media the satellites or crutches of the PSOE such as: PODEMOS or SOMOS-NC are surely more rewarded than UNIDOS POR LANZAROTE. But at least they have respected us and given us the opportunity to present ourselves and participate at some point. Only Lancelot has denied us any opportunity, not even to publish any of the many notes that we have sent him. We know that the professionals of the media have been given the instruction not to mention UPL under any circumstances. In fact, they made Manuel Cabrera disappear from this media months ago, for simply telling the truth, having to resign from the Vice Presidency due to the abuses and bad arts of Pedro San Gines. The people of Lanzarote will have to decide next May 26. We were aware of the political and media landscape that we faced, that for a new, humble, absolutely independent and insularist party, it would make us compete with many adversities and difficulties. But here we are: Proud of the work done and of the courage of a group of people to face the big parties and problems that are entrenched on this island. More at the service of themselves and of whoever is in charge in Tenerife, Gran Canaria, or Madrid than at the service of Lanzarote. Our island urgently needs to have a party like UNIDOS POR LANZAROTE (UPL), which only owes itself to the people of Lanzarote, which breaks this sad political and media landscape.
