In two years, they have cut back on the Social Rights that we have worked so hard to achieve in this country, after forty years of Franco's dictatorship.
They have brutally attacked and cut back on Public Education, Public Health, Working Life, the Dependency Law, and Pensions. Unemployment has increased terribly. They have sold us to the banks, until we have become the last country in Europe.
I remember a phrase from my father (1921-1985), a communist and a red: ¨We are the tail of Europe¨, unfortunately still valid today.
They relegate to the background, Equality between Men and Women, and ignore the brutal social scourge that is Gender Violence.
And now, to sweeten the pill for the most rancid and ultra-conservative sector that has always been waiting for its opportunity, they are touching our freedoms.
Because sticking your nose into the current Abortion Law is just that, cutting back on Women's Freedom.
Just as the intention to impose a Citizen Security Law is also cutting back on freedoms.
The PP government throws women into the clutches of those who, lurking behind the arrival of Democracy in our country, claim their right of first night. They offer us as a bargaining chip to their most extremist voters.
¨¨Everything for me¨¨, they think. A country of rich and poor, of "yes" men, of ostracism, of poverty for the majority, and of a small minority that lords it over and rejoices in the material goods hoarded for no reason.
This government takes us back to Francoism, wipes out the Welfare State with a stroke of the pen, and the middle class disappears, overwhelmed by so much oppression.
The Spanish men and women on foot are good people; hard-working; siesta-loving, yes!; down-to-earth; honest; peaceful; intelligent; humble; loving of their own; supportive; and more adjectives that I'm sure I forget to mention.
But people! If they touch the bread of every day, disrupt our homes, and our families, expel our daughters and sons abroad in search of a new life, if they threaten us with silence, if they lead us to begging, to the insecurity of a dignified retirement, I sincerely believe that we can explode.
Let's fight for our Rights and our Freedoms, because these last two years have been devastating, and what they have in hand looks bad, no matter how much they want to sell us smoke.
For this reason, women, who by the way, are present in all the Tides, White, Green, Black, Violet; etc., we return to the streets, raising our voices, as in the 60s and 70s, for and for the defense of our Right to Decide about our Sexual and Reproductive Life, about our own life.
We will arrive from everywhere in ¨The Freedom Train¨, with a final stop in Atocha (Madrid), next Saturday, February 1st.
We will walk until we reach the Congress of Deputies, where the manifesto ¨Because I Decide¨ will be registered, because we are Free, and only we ourselves command over our Life, neither the State, nor the Church, nor the Society.
Because I Decide
Vicenta Monge García, President of Tiemar
