To start this opinion article that comes from the deepest rejection of the current Government's management, I have to go back to 2018. That year, Spain made us excited about participating in the football World Cup after the disappointment of 2014, but the Russian hosts brought us down from the cloud (who would have thought what would happen later with Russia and Europe).
But perhaps it was not the most important event, but there was one on June 1 of that year that would mark a before and after in the future of our country. That day, in the Congress of Deputies, the motion of censure against the Government of Mariano Rajoy was voted on, promoted by the PSOE and supported by infinite parties that sought, without a doubt, to defeat the PP under the umbrella, according to them, of corruption.
Mariano Rajoy then demonstrated the talent that must be had. He assumed and respected that democracy allows to add majorities and overthrow governments. That day, he shook hands with Pedro Sánchez, took his briefcase, said goodbye and left politics after governing since 2011 with an overwhelming absolute majority.
That's where the presidency of Pedro Sánchez began, who with only 84 deputies managed to convince Unidos Podemos and its confluences, Esquerra Republicana de Catalunya, PDeCAT (current JUNTS), PNV, Compromís, Bildu and Pedro Quevedo of Nueva Canarias, who got his seat by going on the electoral lists of the PSOE for the constituency of Las Palmas. In short, he even made a pact with the devil in order to govern. What we didn't know is that this modus operandi was the one he was always going to follow, no matter what happened.
Then came the 2019 elections (the first ones), which had to be repeated because he intended to govern in minority because he was worth it, this idea being rejected twice. However, six months later and losing three seats along the way, he did see a coalition government with Podemos in a good light, with a deep embrace with Pablo Iglesias that inspired Steven Spielberg for a new blockbuster.
And from there, Sánchez went for it all. We went from a "I will never govern with Podemos" to a "We have a coalition government for change". We gravitated from the resounding statements against the amnesty of the Catalan criminals to voting in Congress for it. We went from having a democracy to an authentic barbarism, all with the sole purpose: to stay in La Moncloa.
I do not consider that Spaniards, whether left or right, deserve to have a president like Pedro Sánchez. But all this reminder of what has happened is to be able to especially emphasize the nonsense we are currently experiencing, with a president impregnated with cases of alleged corruption and, above all, morally reprehensible.
How is it possible that they censored Rajoy with hoaxes and now, with his wife full of cases of alleged corruption, with Aldama, Ábalos and even the former president of the Canary Islands stained with the corruption of the masks and absolutely nothing happens?
It is not acceptable, much less, that the president entrenches himself as the Marquis of La Oliva to a position with everything around him. Without a majority, with more and more detractors, and with his hands stained with the worst. But there he remains, without any shame.
Pedro Sánchez has shown, and more every day, that he doesn't care about anything. We could emulate the TikTok meme that says "Because you don't give a damn about anything", which influencer Laura Escanes made so viral. Anything goes, make a pact with whoever it is and lie without any shame. Because it is an idea, to put the politics of personal interest above the common good.
