Of fools and useless. LAVA-PIL by CC.

May 3 2019 (11:51 WEST)

We have acted from UNIDOS POR LANZAROTE with the coherence of someone who a few months ago invited the parties to make a regeneration of island political life. Removing convicts, sentenced or accused from the lists for serious causes. As we expected, we were not paid much attention and CC and LAVA-PIL are within their rights to insist with people who we believe should withdraw from politics. And we are within our right to ask for regeneration and try to make the rules the same for everyone!. For this reason, we asked the JEC for a clarification on the political-judicial situation of Mrs. Gladys Acuña.

UPL is not responsible for the judicial situation of Mrs. Acuña or her new party LAVA-PIL by CC. If Mrs. Acuña can reverse the TSJC's sentence in the Supreme Court, which condemned her to many years of disqualification for matters in which we are nobody to comment, her participation in politics would seem perfect to us. For the moment and until that is not the case, and as the JEC has said, she cannot participate nor should she do politics. Yesterday in an absurd and empty press conference, she repeated for the umpteenth time that she considers herself innocent and that everyone is against her. "Some solid, original and very respectable arguments".

Despite that and regretting it very much, we have to stick with what the TSJC ruled, and not with what Gladys herself thinks of herself. We hope that, as she herself affirms, the Supreme Court will finally correct the TSJC and declare her innocent. But for the moment, Mrs. Acuña is not as innocent as she proclaims and that is why she had to leave the Mayor's Office. And if she were as innocent as anyone, as she also repeats, she could run in these elections. But the Supreme Court closed that door, which the TSJC's sentence left open by disqualifying her only from municipal politics. For this reason, she was planning to continue in politics in the Cabildo or the Parliament, as she intended, with the help of CC. What the Supreme Court now corrects by clarifying that a person who is removed, disqualified, for an administration must be so for all. Unquestionable and inevitable. Hats off to Justice!. It was about time.

In our opinion, after resigning from being mayor of her municipality, and for simple ethics, she should not have tried to be a councilor of the Cabildo or a parliamentarian. At least until she clarifies her situation and is seen free of condemnatory and disqualifying sentences. It is our opinion but we are not the cause of the harm or its consequences. UPL (UNIDOS POR LANZAROTE) is a humble, small, new party, without great business or media support like Mrs. Acuña has. But we have the right to express our opinions and for the citizens to decide. It is not our fault that she is removed from politics by a disqualification sentence and intends to participate in the campaign as she said yesterday in a TV interview (curiously of the same property as the winery for which she was sentenced). Reiterating her innocence among cheers and praises from the presenter and affirming that although she is not a candidate she will be sponsoring and directing Óscar Noda, Ramón Bermúdez or Mame since without her they would not be able to campaign. Surely she was referring to them when she mentioned some as "stupid or useless".

The incredible thing about the matter is that it is about blaming others for the situation of the former mayor. Mrs. Acuña said yesterday that she understands CC. We can also understand Pedro Sanginés' joy that the candidate for the Cabildo of Gladys' party is Ramón Bermúdez. He adds his faithful David de la Hoz of two to the Cabildo and of two to the Parliament with the submissive Bermúdez as head of Lava-PIL by CC. How can they not be happy in CC?. And if everyone is happy, why blame others?. We have nothing more to say about it.

Laureano Alvarez., President of UPL.
