I remember that in the month of June of last year, when there were only a few days left for the new Corporation to access the Government of the Cabildo, the still acting Government team made a decision that no one expected: to bury the wrestling ground of the Lanzarote Sports City.

We were all stunned and asked ourselves the same questions: Why? How is it possible that a Government team that is already leaving made such a transcendental decision? How can Alfredo Mendoza, who fought for years and was even president of a club, be able to pour concrete on a wrestling ground? Many questions and very few answers.

In addition, the then Minister of Public Works, assures that this concrete would serve to "bring sports to schools" and to "develop an agreement to promote Canarian wrestling." But how was he going to do that if he had eliminated the main facility? A real nonsense.

We raised our voices to the sky, and promised that since we accessed the Island Government, the recovery of this wrestling ground would be one of our priorities. And we can proudly say that yes, we have fulfilled it. That we have recovered the wrestling ground of the Lanzarote Sports City.

And I assure you that it is not a matter of egos, but of demonstrating that the Popular Party has a commitment to the citizens of the island, as well as to all sectors, and sports is one more. Therefore, one of the first meetings I had with the Public Works team of the Cabildo of Lanzarote I said it clearly: we have to recover the wrestling ground of the Sports City.

We started working on it, in collaboration with the Sports area led by my colleague Juan Monzón. As far as my area is concerned, we expressly awarded the work of recovering the wrestling ground, so that we could have that facility active again as soon as possible.

I had the honor of visiting the progress of the work on several occasions and seeing firsthand how, little by little, the image of the wrestling ground was recovered. In addition, I know that the Sports area has worked to clean and decorate the space in the best possible way. Without a doubt, it has been an incredible job that has come out, to a large extent, due to the love that has been put into the recovery project.

In addition, finally the chicken of Arrecife will give name to this wrestling ground. Heraclio Niz, a person who penetrated the hearts of the residents of the capital, not only for his great skills on the sand, but also for his closeness and his work as a Local Police officer of Arrecife. Without a doubt, he deserved to have a recognition of this type.

We have banished what should never have been buried. We have recovered the spirit and idiosyncrasy of the Canarian people, the respect and affection for our vernacular sport. Because we can say, with pride, that Lanzarote finally recovers its Canarian Wrestling ground.
