From the immense sadness for the death of my friend Julio, I write these lines in his memory, because today he has become part of the collective memory of our country.
After an agonizing week, in which we had created the expectations that he would recover, because we knew of his strength of spirit, his courage and his vitality; today that generous and wounded heart was definitively extinguished.
I want to keep in mind his large family, the group of friends of the Colectivo Prometeo, all the people who love him, who number in the thousands. A solidarity hug.
The person has left us, but he has left an immense legacy of political and social thought in defense of his ideas.
Ethical reference, tireless worker, brilliant and vibrant speaker, accurate in his analysis, reflective, active and always updated without needing to be part of social networks, away from notoriety, jealous of his privacy, endearing person, full of affection and tenderness.
I am sure that today, from his shyness and simplicity, he would be overwhelmed by the unanimous feeling of recognition of his person and his life of commitment to the working class, to the most disadvantaged, to achieve a more just and egalitarian society.
You have earned it, comrade, and today you have to accept it.
From the exercise of the teaching profession, going through being the first communist mayor of a provincial capital -of his beloved Córdoba-, the General Secretariat of the PCE, the creation of IU of which he was General coordinator, his return to teaching at the IES Blas Infante of Córdoba, his support for 15-M and the Marches for Dignity, the impulse to the Civic Front, his commitment to Unidas Podemos and the creation of the Colectivo Prometeo, to his continued commitment to his writings, conferences and events where he was claimed. He was always a militant of the stars, a left-wing leader, faithful to his ideas.
Always active, intellectually lucid, with the exact word to point out the causes and their possible consequences, premonitory on many occasions, he traveled every corner of our country, teaching political thought, exercising his teaching from simplicity, making economics, politics, the springs of power intelligible to those who pointed out and denounced them without fear and continually calling for the need for commitment, political and social militancy.
Always insisting on the need to organize ourselves for social transformation and construction, from the base, of the secular republican spirit for the conquest of freedom, equality and fraternity of people and peoples in solidarity.
And the solemn declaration of Human Rights and the Earth Charter, as a reference and roadmap.
Companion and friend, today is a sad day for many; but we have your memory, your example of life and commitment and your intellectual legacy.
