It's worth listening to the congressman, Pedro Quevedo, from Nueva Canarias and elected by the province of Las Palmas (a province to which I believe Lanzarote also belongs), talk about the interests of the Sphinx or Reina Sofía ports and that priority should be given to their investments before those of Lanzarote, which we have been rightly demanding for so long. And in case it now occurs to him to say that that's not what he said, here you can listen to what he really said from his own mouth
It is unacceptable for a representative of the people of Lanzarote in the State to complain about money being allocated to this Island, and it certainly places Nueva Canarias in the place that many of us know it has never wanted to leave. Let's not fool ourselves, Nueva Canarias neither has, nor has had, nor wants a project for the Canary Islands, and its defense of this Land begins in Isleta and ends in Maspalomas, they neither see nor want to see beyond.
I am concerned that he has not bothered to learn about the problem of the port of Arrecife, or worse, that knowing it, he lies to the population "the Port of Arrecife only has a problem one day a year", he said literally. Is this gentleman unaware of the problems of the port of Mármoles with the South wind and what it means for our economy every time a ship is diverted due to problems in docking maneuvers.
It saddens me, in truth, that the representative in the State, also of Lanzarote, raises his voice so that the money that others have pursued and conquered does not come to this Island. It's a good thing he's also a congressman for this Island because if he were from another province I don't even want to think about what he would be claiming.
These types of statements, from someone who is supposed to represent us, reinforce my belief that with certain traveling companions it is better not to get on the boat because it becomes clear that the National Project of Nueva Canarias is neither here nor expected and that its structure here is nothing more than a tool to add a handful of votes to the common basket.
Now I understand their position as an Organization with triple parity. They are bothered that the Islands of Fuerteventura and Lanzarote have the capacity to decide and equate our weight in the archipelago simply because it is easier to take weight away from us than to work to gain the trust of the people of Lanzarote. "If we take weight away from them and transfer it to where we have the votes, we will make the decisions and they will be happy with the crumbs we have left over," they must think.
I would like to hear from their representatives in Lanzarote, from their public and organic positions elected by the people of Lanzarote, what they think of these intentions and what they think of insularity and that "sweeping for home" of their fellow party members. A "New" Canary Islands in which Román and his people are reviving the Island dispute and seeking a two-speed Land, forgetting that we are an archipelago and that each of the 8 Islands has its own needs. It would never occur to me to question the priorities set by Gran Canaria because they are the ones who know their needs and I would ask the gentlemen of Nueva Canarias to apply the same criteria to those of Lanzarote and La Graciosa. Those needs are no more or less important depending on where more people live and we must all work to ensure that ALL are met, but not at the expense of taking it away from the other, but by committing the State to recognize our peculiarity and make a special effort in a territory separated by the sea - That should be your job, Mr. Quevedo, not to discuss the achievements of this Island-.
We must not allow Nueva Canarias to try to move our investments to another Island or try to take away our weight in the Parliament of the Canary Islands that maintains the balance between the Islands.
I thought about it when as a "nationalist" party they ran in an election with the PSOE, I confirmed it when they proposed taking deputies away from Lanzarote and I reaffirmed it listening to (our) deputy talking about taking money away from Lanzarote to give it to another Port. NC neither thinks, nor ever thought, nor will think in the future about a Canary Islands of equals and Lanzarote is not interested in it as long as we do not give it the votes that Gran Canaria can give it.
