Identidad Lanzarote

May 9 2019 (18:40 WEST)

A few lines, a paragraph, an article, an idea, is not enough to talk about what we feel before the privilege of living and sharing Lanzarote and La Graciosa, and even less to describe an island project, an island model. To describe its people, its landscapes, its culture, its history, its idiosyncrasy, its seal, its most international artist, its past, its present, its future, its gaze, its smile. My beloved land, my source of life, everything falls short.

But if you get excited at every sunset, if you fall in love with our coast, if you are passionate about its guardian Famara, if you are shocked to still see the sombrereras, if you get goosebumps when you hear the wind of Lanzarote, if you cry with every memory of your land, if your heart skips a beat with every isa sung from the eighth island? If you imagine, if you feel, if you see what we are, then you know Identidad Lanzarote.

What our land can offer you, what our land teaches us, what this land can give to my son, to your children? This fertile and grateful land is a unique land, with that plastic beauty in the words of others, fields of rofe, lava, fire, sea, palm trees in the wind... what a beautiful combination! No one was ever so capricious and no one ever gave us so much.

Therefore, if you know Identidad Lanzarote, I won't need to explain the program I'm carrying out. A program that, like me, is identity-based, a program with roots from the south and the north, and with foundations from the interior of the island. A program open to the world, a program that does not dogmatize or stigmatize, that is not exclusive or separatist, a program that brings us back together in what we were, are, and will be again.

If we want to advance, prosper, grow, if we want to recover the unique and innate values of these islands, this is our model, our program, and our candidacy.

Our program adds to the humility and simplicity of a boy who comes from Ye and also from Las Breñas, who grew up in Altavista and resides in Tahiche, who enters politics with a different order of priorities, who looks at politics with different eyes, with the passionate and exciting way of turning things around. I am willing to change the unfortunate routine of this island. My greatest asset is that I have a life free of breaches and betrayals to the islands that I aspire to represent with dignity, with pockets full of honesty and the desire to improve myself. This is how I present myself to all of you and this is how I wish to continue with you as President of the Cabildo.

Jacobo Medina, candidate of the Popular Party to the Cabildo of Lanzarote and La Graciosa
