Heroines without a cape

Today is an important day for all fighters. The world celebrates the International Day of Women and Girls in Science. A very important date, since for centuries the contributions of women to the advancement of science have been very relevant to progress. Many of them having to face stereotypes and absurd barriers that try to differentiate and superimpose one gender over another. Currently, 70% of researchers are men, although I must admit that in the most advanced countries on the planet the figures are more equitable.

Today, very few dare to question the role of women. The progressive policies promoted by the different socialist governments have reinforced their visibility and importance in society. And more importantly, in almost all sectors equal opportunities for both sexes have been achieved. Unfortunately, in a multitude of countries, women are not recognized rights and live under the yoke of male chauvinist terrorism. Even the few who dare to raise their voices to change these archaic customs end up murdered or, what is worse, "disappeared."

But today is also a day to remember Marie Curie, Rosalind Franklin or Flora de Pablo. The latter, in addition to her contributions to science, fights for the recognition of the work of women in science through the Association of Women Researchers and Technologists. Because they should be an example to follow for everyone. Mirrors where we can look to demonstrate that there are no barriers. The courage and perseverance of all of them have allowed science and medicine to be so advanced today. Authentic heroines without a cape.
