It seems that we are going to have to live throughout this legislature, which will last its four years, with the proclamations about the sinking of our country that both the extreme right and the extreme right are shouting at all hours. Their political tactic is very evident and consists of setting fire to the climate of coexistence and proclaiming the worse the better to see if, in a stroke of luck, they manage to conquer the power that the polls deny them. Faced with these unconstructive attitudes, we progressives must counter with temperance, unity of action, social advancement policies and more welfare state.
I must recognize, however, that it is not easy to remain impassive in the face of the pearls, each more delirious, that both the extreme right and the extreme right offer us every day. No, it is not easy to turn a deaf ear to so much distraction noise to concentrate on the task of combating the pandemic and its devastating economic and social consequences, protecting the most vulnerable and governing to transform our country within the framework of the anti-crisis plan and economic reactivation and modernization proposed by the European Union.
The bizarre announcement of a motion of censure by Vox, it is not clear whether against the Government of Pedro Sánchez or rather against what he calls the cowardly right represented by the Popular Party (PP), is now joined by another of a similar nature in the Canary Islands. What remains of the Canarian Nationalist Party (PNC) has asked its electoral partner, Canarian Coalition (CC), to present a motion of censure against the Canarian government of progress that emerged from the Pact of Flowers "even if it is to lose it." It seems that the extremes meet in their contest of occurrences.
What the ultra-right pursues seems obvious, to devour the PP as much as it can with the intention of overtaking it electorally and turning the political and institutional balances of our country towards nostalgic Francoism and the catacombs. Against this evil, the recipe is clear: fascism is fought from debate, because the opposite would be to enter the terrain to which they want to take us. On the other hand, what the PNC is pursuing may be to sow discord and encourage Nueva Canarias to take the step of breaking the pact in the Islands, despite the repeated and explicit refusals of the progressive nationalists to embark on adventures towards nowhere.
But we haven't seen it all yet. I am convinced that we are only witnessing the appetizers of a string of occurrences, each more extravagant, that will accompany us in the months and years to come, from here until the legislature is exhausted and new general elections are called. Now, we see Casado complaining that Sánchez does not call him and encouraging on the other hand the insubordination of the mayors of the PP against the agreement signed between the Ministry of Finance and the Spanish Federation of Municipalities on the use of municipal surpluses.
It's crazy, but it will go further, let no one doubt it, although with their attitude whoever really loses is Spain or the Canary Islands. Or both. They are completely indifferent if it serves their petty interests.
