Lanzarote and La Graciosa deserve to have a direct line with Madrid so that all our projects can move forward and our needs can be resolved, without cheap excuses, without vague arguments? Our islands deserve the best because we have been at the bottom of the list for many years, waiting with our arms crossed for our turn to come, watching how there are Autonomous Communities that grow and suffering for the Canary Islands.
Call me envious if you want, but I wish the State Government would look at us as they look at Catalonia, Galicia, Andalusia or the Basque Country, and not with that condescending attitude that many seem to have become accustomed to.
Well, I don't get used to it, no sir. And I don't get used to it because we are not second-class citizens, we are fighters because we have not had it easy, and we are going to continue fighting for what we consider fair.
We want our Statute of Autonomy, our REF, to be recognized and strictly applied, that our singularities be taken into account, that they do not forget that Lanzarote is the third most important island and that La Graciosa has finally managed to enter the list of inhabited islands? Yes, yes, there is life in the Canary Islands beyond Gran Canaria and Tenerife, although some from the peninsula do not even know how to locate us on the map.
And that is what I want to take care of. To make noise, to fight for what is ours, to remove blindfolds and put up loudspeakers. I am going to demand that our coasts be safe for those of us who live here and for those who come from outside, a Border Inspection Post (BIP) so that the shopping basket is cheaper, the maintenance of 75% of the traveler discount and the need to control the abusive price increase by airlines, connectivity by port and airport, the particularities of the primary sector, the health, educational and tourist infrastructure needs,
There is a lot, a lot of work to be done because those who have had the opportunity to advance the task have limited themselves to nodding their heads and looking the other way.
But I can't do all this alone. Fortunately, I have the colleagues who are running on the lists for Congress of Deputies and who are going to achieve a strong nationalist representation.
And, most importantly, we have all of you. We are going to achieve it. We are only the visible face of thousands of people who live, love, make and build Lanzarote and La Graciosa, who fight and give strength to the Canary Islands, and we are going to make them feel proud to finally have a voice that represents them in Madrid.
I am not talking about utopias or wonderful stories, I am talking about real facts. When we have had the opportunity, the nationalists have demonstrated what can be done when one is not subjected to the yoke of parties that centralize everything in Madrid.
We have the best program for the Canary Islands and we understand that we can be the voice that the Canarians need. We have demonstrated this when we have been necessary for governments, when we have had responsibilities with our deputies.
In order for the people of Lanzarote and Graciosa to be heard in Madrid, a 180-degree turn must be given to the policies that have been developed to date.
They fear us because we are different and because we are strong. I am not the best politician in the world, I am not even the best person in the world (except for my family), but I have something that some do not have, and it is called honesty.
Choose the Canary Islands, choose Lanzarote, choose La Graciosa? Bet on yourself and your future.
Samuel Martín Morera. Nationalist Candidate for the Senate for Lanzarote and La Graciosa
