At your service

December 15 2015 (18:03 WET)

We are facing the last days before the General Election, next Sunday, December 20, an appointment in which this country has a lot at stake.

It has been an atypical campaign, with the powerful entry into the electoral contest of two new political forces, Podemos and Ciudadanos, propelled by the novelty and political weariness typical of the end of a cycle. And with a Popular Party strangled by corruption and government actions impossible to justify.

In this panorama, the Socialist Party offers citizens the guarantee of work well done in the past, self-criticism and recognition of the mistakes made, and the renewal of faces and ideas demanded by Spanish society.

I, Ariagona González, am part of a new generation of public officials who were born in Democracy and have grown up learning to respect consensus and participation. I have seen how bad political practices have damaged our coexistence and have installed doubt, if not contempt, towards the party system and the misnamed "ruling classes".

I do not aspire to be a ruling class because I am a public servant, after receiving the vote of confidence from the citizens of Lanzarote for their representation in the Cabildo. Confidence that I will never confuse with a blank check or a license to act for my own benefit.

I want to be a socialist senator to work for each and every one of the people who reside in Lanzarote. I want to transfer their demands and concerns to where the big decisions are made, those that affect us all. And I don't want to do it from a pedestal or through intermediaries or advisors, but directly, in an open-door office on the island.

Nothing more. You have the PSOE electoral program on the Internet, you have my commitment to work, seriousness and values, and you have your criteria and your sensitivity to decide what model of country and society you want to build. Now is the time to do it. All together, with participation and democratic culture.

Ariagona González, Senate Candidate for the Socialist Party
