Arrecife: budgets that look to the future… while the city is flooded in the present

March 26 2026 (19:08 WET)

There are political decisions that explain themselves alone.

And then there are the budgets of PP and Coalición Canaria in Arrecife, which say a lot… precisely because of what they don't do.

Because while accounts are presented that on paper seem ambitious, the reality remains the same as always: when it rains, Arrecife floods.

And these budgets change absolutely nothing.

To maintain is not to transform

The key is not in how much money there is. It is in how it is prioritized.

And what these budgets reflect is clear: the functioning of the City Council is guaranteed, but the structural problems of the city are not addressed.

That is to say: the administration is maintained. The city continues to wait.

Promises that always come later

Another evident element is that many of the important actions are projected into the future.

They are announced, they are planned, they are put on paper… but they are not executed now.

A comfortable way to govern: talk about what will come while the urgent remains unresolved.

March 2026: reality does not change

The recent rains of March 2026 have once again left the same image as always: water accumulations, collapsed streets, and drainage problems in different neighborhoods.

It is not an exception. It is the usual.

And when the usual repeats itself, it ceases to be a surprise.

A known problem… that is not prioritized

It is perfectly known what happens in Arrecife: lack of a rainwater network, uncontrolled runoff, and clearly insufficient infrastructure.

It is not a new problem. It is not an unknown problem.

It is a problem that is not being prioritized.

From Nueva Canarias it has been warned

From Nueva Canarias–Bloque Canarista we have clearly warned: these budgets once again leave out real solutions to structural problems of the city.

Not only regarding drainage and rainwater.

Also in basic issues such as the Argana Alta health center, an evident need for a neighborhood that continues to await a response.

And that is the crux of the matter.

It's not that it can't be done. It's that it's not being done.

Very visible priorities

There are actions. There is investment in what is seen.

But not in what prevents the city from failing.

Because a rainwater network doesn't look good. And a health center is not a quick photo.

Budgeting is also deciding what you don't fix

Here there is no lack of information. There is no lack of diagnosis. There is no lack of needs.

There are decisions.

And it is evident which ones have been made.

Conclusion

The budgets of PP and Coalición Canaria are not a mistake.

They are a way of governing: keeping the city functioning without solving its problems.

Closing

In Arrecife, the rain does not fail.

What fails is that, year after year, actions continue as if it were not going to rain or as if a health center were not needed.
