Damián was a curious child who lived in a beautiful town near the coast. In the morning, from his room, he listened to the sound of the sea; sometimes it filled him with energy and other times, depending on his mood, it made him sad.
One day, after arriving from school, he finished all his homework and went to bed. That night he had a strange dream. He saw a beautiful table with silhouettes that looked like people. Stunned, he saw those figures and, very expectantly, asked them who they were.
The first figure was a tall man with a drum. "I am anger, I am always by your side to protect you and so you can react when something bad is stalking you. But you must know how to control me, otherwise I can hurt you."
Behind, a delicate being with a violin said: "I am sadness, I always arrive when something hurts you and you shouldn't leave me with you for too long, because I can turn off your light."
Another figure, with a timple in his hand, intervened: "I am fear, I am by your side to protect you from dangers, but sometimes I exaggerate and stop you."
Singing, she said: "I am joy, I am here to help you find the beauty in life. I cannot be alone, because the other emotions also have something to teach you."
Waving his hand, another figure with a double bass added: "I am calm, when everything is noisy, I give you peace and invite you to breathe and live relaxed."
The last figure introduced himself: "I am temperance, I want to be your balance between all my friends, the emotions. If any of them predominates, you will lose your balance."
In the center of the room there was a majestic piano, with keys that invited you to sit down and play them. This beautiful piano represented empathy. It unites all the other instruments and will allow each emotion to have its moment. When it sounds, you will know when to let the drum of anger sound loudly, let the violin of sadness play its melody and the others give calm.
When Damián woke up, he was very happy and wanted to tell his classmates about that beautiful dream:
"Guys, we have to think that our emotions are like the instruments of a great orchestra. Some are strong, like the drum, others very soft, like the violin or light like the flute, but the piano, which is empathy, helps us to listen to ourselves internally and work together. If we learn to understand our emotions and those of others, our life will be like a symphony full of harmony and we would live happily without so much anger.
