From Hay Proyecto en Tías (HPET) we echo the "multitude of complaints" that citizens have conveyed to us related to the works being carried out on the Matagorda Promenade.
These complaints are occurring due to the "apparent paralysis" of the works, which affects the normal transit through the area and the image that tourists take away from our island. Anyone who walks there will find broken tiles, piled up and thrown around, mountains of construction sand, tools and implements, wood, cement, and if you go at night, almost absolute darkness in some areas.
In addition, there is no adequate signage in some sections or information and/or danger signs. We understand that the area should be completely closed to the public before being in these conditions. We do not know if someone from the town hall has requested the company executing the work to clear the area until it is clarified what happens with that work, what is obvious is that the company is not working and has the street in terrible conditions and that cannot happen, or perhaps if a neighbor acts in the same way, are they not required and/or sanctioned? We take this opportunity to request that action be taken to resolve this shameful situation.
It should be remembered that our public representatives (from the tourist municipality par excellence of Lanzarote) have enjoyed a few days in Madrid, according to them selling Puerto del Carmen at FITUR as a first-class tourist destination. They have taken the opportunity to present a plan called "Strategy 2020-25". Apparently, the strategy involves a commitment to sustainability, accessibility, sport and gastronomy in Puerto del Carmen. Surely they mean that the Matagorda promenade, part of Puerto del Carmen, is now inaccessible, gloomy, dangerous, an enemy of the businesses located there and, above all, an obstacle course worthy of a first-class competition, Olympic at the very least. There we agree.
So the question that remains is? Does anyone believe that a government team that abandons a work in the middle of the main avenue of a tourist area, "first class" for so long, will be able to transform the infrastructure and guide companies towards excellence? We hope things change.
