A PSOE that is safe and free of gender violence

November 25 2014 (13:07 WET)

Gender violence is a democratic deficit, a social problem in whose solution the whole society must be involved. To such an extent is this so, that the PSOE itself does not surrender to the complacency of pointing out sexist attitudes abroad, but recognizes the need to combat them within the party.

That is why our Decalogue against gender violence points out the need for all our headquarters to be safe spaces free of gender violence, practicing zero tolerance with abuse and abusers.

All local groups, by virtue of the provisions of the Decalogue, commit themselves to contributing to social awareness and awareness through acts and pronouncements. Also the Arrecife Group, of which we are part, since we have the obligation to include in our equal opportunities plan the measures for the prevention of gender violence.

Our militancy demands that each socialist militant becomes an activist and embraces the commitment to building a just, egalitarian and violence-free society against women.

I want to share with you the legitimate pride of belonging to an organization like the PSOE, committed to such an extent to the fight against gender violence, that it comes to consider the requirement and public commitment to turn its headquarters into safe spaces free of gender violence.

Despite such important advances as the Comprehensive Law Against Violence against Women, we know that there is still a long way to go and we maintain our commitment. I am convinced that we are on the right track.
