We have been living in a complex situation for two years that has left its mark on an emotional and psychological level. Now is the time to look at what has happened and contribute within our singularity to a better and more resilient tomorrow. Our determination as a people in solidarity and good work is undeniable.
The challenges that will come will not be few and the people who make up the island of Lanzarote that is today, have gone through events that, looked at with the perspective of time, give us to understand a truth, we are a people that progresses to the sound of the construction of the community. Since the beginning of the island's contemporaneity back in 1811, the island has experienced many processes. I know that the historical perspective is often overwhelming, but if something defines us as a society it is the construction of our own vision, often loaded with tensions that we have solved as best we know how: working hard to leave a better tomorrow.
Wherever we are on the island, we will always see other towns, other islands, other realities that are positioned in front of us and it is precisely that vision anchored in the continuous looking at the horizon, which defines our ways of proceeding in this fragile territory that are none other than innovation and adaptation.
Lanzarote is modulated to solve the needs of this new time framed in an unprecedented health crisis, but also with the urgency of the climate emergency that the planet is experiencing.
This 2021 has resulted in important measures for the future of the island such as: the involvement of the administrations in the improvement of health through the activation of the necessary processes for the construction of new health centers. The growth of the installation of renewable energies in our island is accelerating to glimpse a future without fossil fuels. Investment is being made again in both scientific and archaeological research to continue to be able to look to the future, but also to the past. Although public and sustainable transport on the island is a titanic problem, much progress is being made in accessibility and investment. The island is experiencing a boom in its cultural and educational activity, making them less and less elitist. There are many more things to focus on but in short, a time is still opening up where changes will continue to advance causing an improvement in Lanzarote. Our island has something that very few places have, an incredible solidarity and it is precisely that tendency towards altruism, which makes social services and attention to those who have less is increasing.
There are many problems such as the misgovernment of Arrecife and the bad practices that continue to govern in some places, but it is about looking to the future with hope and I truly believe that Lanzarote is dreaming again of a future that it never had to stop looking at.
I wish you a Happy 2022. Take good care of yourselves and from the heart, let's get excited about tomorrow.
