A historic moment

Ari Congreso

Committed and excited. That's how I felt today when participating in the act of Constitution of the Lower House, now converted into one of the 350 deputies of the new Congress.

It is difficult to express the vertigo of the journey that has taken me from that small island in the middle of the Atlantic called Lanzarote where I was born and raised, to the place where the future of our people, our town, of the whole country is built.

The responsibility is enormous but I assume it in its entirety, with the pride of being a woman and a socialist, with my values and convictions, which make me who I am and sustain my vocation of public service and my desire to participate in a Spain of progress.

This XIII Legislature under the presidency of Pedro Sánchez will be fundamental to advance in the legal consolidation of long-postponed rights, which citizens demand and which must be addressed: the free choice of a dignified death, the equality of women in salaries and professional projection, the hardening of penalties for sexual assault or the fight against climate change through a firm commitment to renewable energies.

Also on the agenda, the State Pacts that guarantee measures to prevent gender violence or an effective education law, which builds citizenship and not labor and that functions as a tool for equal opportunities.

And, of course, aid to a tourism sector that evolves as an engine of sustainability, both in terms of the environment and in the workplace: a quality destination is one whose workers enjoy well-being.

And we are going to do it together, from politics and society, because that is the only way progress is possible.

Today I am the only parliamentarian of the Congress of Deputies born on that small Canary Island named Lanzarote. And with all humility but also with all my strength, I am going to work to improve the life of our people, of our people, of our country, which is ultimately, the Spain we want.
